Contras: ""Customs" at JFK came to an entire halt. All passengers where stuck in the welcome hall for 1h, without any information, why held there and why nothing was moving forward. All CBP booths were closed, but 8 (eight!) employees, who normally direct arriving passengers to the kiosk-machines where hanging out in two groups sharing private stories and having laughs instead of at least informing passengers, what was going on. Lots of passengers where outraged...a couple in their mid 70s in front of us had to sit down on the floor, since they had circulation problems from standing in line so long. Sadly, JFK isn't what it used to be anymore."
Contras: "Boarding at Singapore airport was shocking, as we had to wait 6 hours for our flight. Rating low to the crew mainly because of the ground staff as they were not very communicative to begin with about the explanation for our delay. Only when the passengers got a bit more vocal about wanting explanations, they started giving us a bit more information. All estimated times given for boarding the flight were incorrect by a big margin! Seemed more like they were giving shorter wait time for boarding just to please the passengers, where as they were well aware of how long the wait would be."

We did not receive any compensation, but Singapore/Silk Airlines told us they were able to get us a flight home to LAX instead, but that it wouldn't be until the next day. We spent money on a hotel and food and waited until the next morning, got to the airport early for check in only to find that Singapore/Silk had in fact, given up our seats that they had promised us. They said that we now would have to wait another day just to get a flight from Singapore to LAX. We asked to speak with a manager, and eventually were able to get two seats due to cancellations. This was intended to be a very special and romantic trip that was essentially ruined. Since no one could have anticipated that the volcano would cause cancellation, we should be refunded for our flights. We are so crushed that we did not get to go to Bali, and now we may NEVER get to go because we are out of money. At the VERY least, the leg of our flights from Singapore to Bali, and Bali to Singapore, should be refunded. We are extremely disappointed."

Contras: "I contacted Turkish Airlines 4x times before my flight to learn how to deal with excess medical baggage, mobility assistance, and meal assistance. The Customer Call Center claimed to have made all of my necessary reservation updates for all of my special meal, medical, and mobility assistance needs. They did not! When I arrived at Check-In, there were no notes about any of my requests, nor services prepared to facilitate them. I spent over 30-45 minutes escalating the situation to the Shift Manager who had to contact the central call center and her own manager, just to find out what to do about medical baggage, what's permitted, etc. I was embarrassed for their employees, who not only didn't know their own company policy on the matter, nor were they aware of the industry standard. After much arguing, yelling and threats, the Check-In desk agents finally allowed my excess medical baggage and equipment without extra charge. I still received no mobility assistance to begin my travel after Check-In to my departure gate, nor were they prepared to offer this to me in Istanbul. Again, after a long wait, much yelling, screaming, and arguing, I was finally provided mobility assistance just in time for my flight. I almost missed my flight due to Turkish Airlines not putting my request in the system, nor caring enough about the traveler to do so at Check-In. When I arrived in Belgrade, 3x pieces of my luggage were destroyed and unusable again, medical equipment was damaged, and I filed a claim with Turkish Airlines. They tried every way possible not to pay, but finally offered a meager claim, nothing close to what it cost for the damage caused or to repair or replacement the destroyed luggage or medical equipment. Turkish Airlines is the Grey Hound of travel, sure they might be large, offer many itineraries and frequent travel, but their quality, customer service and professionalism leave them amongst the bottom feeders, still 3rd world in mentality, form and function. No honor, no integrity, no class. No reason to ever fly with Turkish again, and I'm happy to tell everyone I know not to fly with them!"
Contras: "My ticket was messed up completely (GYD-IST-VAR-IST). First leg did not book (close) it properly, I have lost 1 hour at trasfer desk in IST (they were solving my ticket issue for that long) and another hour in VAR on the way back (because the TK staff did not solve it right the first time). Lousy work of service desk! I was lucky to keep boarding passes as the proof, because nobody believed, that I duly arrived from Baku."

I got to see the flight crew handle a medical emergency and saw that they were well prepared, efficient, and concerned. The food and entertainment were fine. I felt like the seat space was better than on British which I often use. I had an empty seat next to me however. I was impressed that the flight crew moved a taller gentleman to a premium (exit) seat to accommodate his extra tall stature. He didn't ask, but they wanted him to be comfortable."
Contras: "The airport in Istanbul is pretty manageable. They changed the gate on us twice for the connection, which meant a bit of walking. But the crowd was pretty manageable compared to LHR."

Prós: "The whole experience was great. After an excellent meal which included drinks before and an excellent wine selection the flt attendants came through and made up a bed for you. This included a cover for the seat, a blanket and a big pillow. As opposed to United where you have to stick your feet in a little cubby the Turkish plane has just an open bench which opens to provide storage and gives ample foot room. I have never slept so much on a flt. Also he bathrooms are much more spacious than others."

I sat in the middle seat between two hours other men. It was a constant struggle arm space. After 7hours in the air I could not wait to get off the plane. If I didn't actually pay an extra €60 for the seat I may not feel bad but I feel like I might have been better off without paying for the "upgrade""

Contras: "KLM had bumped us to a later flight for no reason and again we had to call with a long wait to get our original connection restored, However, we did not get boarding passes during checking in Europe and thus had to go outside security in Detroit to the main check-in gate and wait 30 minutes to get the error resolved. Then it was back thorough security and a rush to the gate to get there in time to board. Lost our original seat assignment and wound up in the last row at the tail of the plane. Extremely poor coordination between KLM and Delta who operated the flight."
