this airline is junk. first class is awful. boarding procedure was double awfully. we were standing in line for ever for priority boarding.

Prós: "TAP always has great team members and crew. They are polite, professional and helpful. The flight itself is comfortable and relaxing; very enjoyable."
Contras: "TAP does not check your bags all the way through if you are having a layover. This makes NO SENSE and requires that you retrieve your luggage from baggage claim, and then check in once more and then another trip through security once again! This never happens in the US - one of the few things we get right. Also, I have never had to board a plan from the tarmac since 1970 in the US - why do we have to always wait for and take buses from our check in gate out to the flight line? And how is this ever considered, "Premium Boarding?" It's like a cattle car. Fix these things and I will sing the praises of TAP forever."
Contras: "Seats were atrociously uncomfortable for a 6'1" man. Less than zero leg room due to ridiculously tight row spacing and non-reclining seatbacks. Had to attempt to cram in sideways - resulting in serious pain by the time the flight finally landed. Intercom system, especially from the captain, was painfully grating and loud. Boarding was extremely slow, in part because gate personnel made no effort whatsoever to police and enforce the four-group boarding process (premium - no carry-on - group A - group B). People boarded whenever they felt like it, many carrying on huge backpacks and multiple other pieces. Will definitely avoid TAP in future."
Contras: "The crew did not know the law about child safety seats. They tried to inform us we could not use it, even though it is approved for air travel. Then they tried to tell us we had to face it forward, which is illegal and it cannot be secured like this. Then they told us the car seat needed to be against the fuselage, but that all the fuselage seats were taken. They did not offer a solution to this problem. I informed them this was TAP's fault for assigning those seats to us. They said they were not responsible, which is clearly wrong. They could have reassigned us at check-in and avoided the problem. They were very concerned about the ability of the person in front of us to recline their seat, but no interested at all in the safety of our baby. They told us we would not be able to use the seat, although our baby was already asleep. They were trying to find a way to make us leave the plane. Finally, some other passengers volunteered to move so we could sit against the fuselage with nobody in the seats in front of us, so we would not block them from reclining. A solution would not have been found by the crew. Only thanks to generous passengers were we able to stay on the plane, even though we were doing everything completely legally. They made my pregnant wife feel so bad that she cried for the first hour of the flight. Then, as the flight was concluding, our baby got airsick and vomited. They crew did nothing to help aside from bring 3 (!) napkins and then leave again. Incredibly unhelpful, mean, ignorant, and combative cabin crew. Truly appalling."

Prós: "In flight crew is really nice and respectful, seats were comfortable, clean bathrooms, in flight entertainment is good."
Contras: "Boarding at Lisbon airport was one of the worst experiences. Passengers were asked to line up at least 30 minutes before boarding started and it was hot in the terminal. As boarding started, passengers were split into groups by boarding zones...premium passengers boarded first as expected, then people with small bags. This is where the problem was because a group of four passengers who had one small bag (that could fit under seat) were allowed to go before passengers in boarding zones A/B. The whole idea is people who could fit bags under their seat would board first, but the tap team made a mess and allowed many passengers with large bags in as well. I was one of the last ones to be boarded and stranded on the line for over 40 minutes with my backpack...after traveling for a month and being delayed in Rome, last thing you want is stupid mistakes like this to cause you stress."

It is not made clear that this bag must go through security with you and therefore cannot contain liquids. We had to jettison a lot of toiletries. When we got to the gate we were allowed to take the bags on anyway. What is the point of this?"

Had to spend extra money for hotel room and car rental in Madrid because our final destination was Sevilla. Will never work with Azores or Kayak again. BTW, did we mention that while "working" with Azores to reschedule flight, we were booked to fly into an island off of Africa. Luckily, we followed up online with the changed itinerary."

Contras: "The flight was delayed - because they simply didn't have a plane- 90 min delay plus the additional time required to board 3 buses of passengers. I missed my connection in Boston, causing me to stay at the airport all night for a morning rebooking. The service counter workers said they were not required to help, they did not apologize either. I am not impressed , I will never fly this airline again."

Contras: "We arrived at Logan airport to find a mass of people waiting to check in for the flight. Turns out, Azores Airlines flights had been being cancelled all week and many people had been stranded in Boston (and likewise in the Azores) for days. The local news was even filming a story about the mess while we were there. The monitors above the check in desks did not have any information and there didn't really appear to be a line. No employees were around to explain what was going on. Eventually an announcement was made that our flight was cancelled and to come back the next day. Still no info on the monitors at the airline desks or on the main airport arrivals and departures board, which continued to show the flight as on time the duration of our time at the airport. I had the app on my phone which also showed the flight as being on time. After the cancellation announcement people stayed in line to get hotel vouchers, but since my husband and I live in Boston we weren't sure if there was another part of the process to get new tickets issued or something. After waiting a long time in which the line never moved I was eventually able to check in with an employee who said we didn't need to do anything, just come back tomorrow. When we got home we were able to catch the news broadcast mentioned earlier in which passengers from the earlier flights were explaining how they kept being told to come back to the airport day after day and nothing happened, so I wasn't reassured! The next day we arrived at Logan and things started out smoothly. We were able to check in and get through security. The flight got delayed a few times after that. Boarding was a mess. People started lining up. While we waited, we noticed people at the gate desk in line. It turned out to be people getting reimbursed for their taxis. There was no announcement made and I think this delayed things further since they didn't start this until boarding was starting despite having had hours to do this prior! After people were already lined up to board it was announced that they would board by "sequence number" on the ticket so we stepped out of line only to have them not check numbers at all. In the end we took off about 26 hours after we were supposed to. The flight itself was a sort of charter flight, the airline basically rented a plane and crew to get us over to the Azores. However, we did take the Azores Airline flight back so I know the food would have been mediocre and there wouldn't be in seat entertainment. I would love to return to the Azores but I'm not sure I would unless Azores Airlines steps up their game! Definitely get trip interruption insurance! We were thankfully able to get reimbursed for accommodations and rental car missed days."

Contras: "Flight was delayed over 3 hours causing me to miss my connecting flight upon arrival in Lisbon. No in flight entertainment, only one meal served, no spot to plug in electronics, and the bathroom door was broken and didn't lock. I would suggest paying a little more for a better and more reliable airline."

Contras: "No in-air entertainment - not a problem as long as you're aware beforehand. Just bring a tablet or magazines."

Lost 2 days of our trip whih were supposed to be in Lisbon. We found a Ryanair flight to Porto just to get to the mainland. What a nightmare. Never flying with Azores/SATA again!!"

On date of departure reseated in middle section though previously booked window seats. 2 after arriving in Portugal informed return flight was cancelled due to crew strike. Told we can wait in Portugal or rebook on new airline. You can't make this stuff up."

Contras: "We had changes to pretty much every leg of our flights. One was delayed by 2.5 hours. I understand that flights get delayed but they hardly gave us any information as to what was going on. The flight was pretty smooth but the flight attendants didn't seem interested in our comfort. They weren't rude but they weren't pleasant either. I guess I'm used to a different style of service that I did not receive on Azores."

No extra bull you don't need like an over night bag (that I've been given on other airlines for over night flights) but if you're expecting it, it may be a bit of a let down. My flight was just under 6 hours so maybe it's too short for that. They served a meal and a half. A full dinner, dessert and appetizer with wine. A muffin with coffee for breakfast. The dinner was surprisingly great. I actually really loved it. The muffin was just a plain blueberry muffin purchased from the store. Just a quick half meal before leaving."
Contras: "Well I had planned to go take a course in Porto which was the whole reason I bought this flight. I missed everything i came here for because of it. They reimbursed people and put people up in hotels, but not me. My trip was ruined essentially due to the cancellation of my first flight but the flight itself, when it did go, was good."

Contras: "We were boarded on a plane that was hot like an oven!!! There was no AC, not even a fan. I felt like in sauna!!! We were told that the AC can only be turned on after the engines start. We were waiting on a plane in this incredible heat for about 40min after which we were told to go back on a bus and back to the terminal. After another hour we were put back on the same "oven" plane. By the time the AC started working another 40 passed even though this time the engines were started shorty after boarding."
