Contras: "We spent 65 hours in airports in the Azores trying to get back to the U.S. Flights were cancelled for no reason and others were delayed so long, connections were missed. Airline reps said a bus would take us to lodging for one of the nights, but a bus never showed up (in fact we found out later a bus never existed for this hotel) -- 4 a.m. and waiting in the rain in Boston. We ended up paying for a taxi to this distant hotel ourselves. We learned we could not trust anything the airline reps told us, even though they thought they were saying the truth. If you go to the Azores, leave an extra 4-5 days to get home, particularly if you are not on Sao Miguel. Almost lost my job over this trip because of this airlines. No apology or explanation for flight delays, etc., was ever offered."

Prós: "Good crew, good flight"
Contras: "Both legs of trip were delayed without anyone notifying passengers."

Prós: "SATA uses both front & rear doors and open seating."
Contras: "No food or drinks."

Prós: "On time departure. On time arrival. Lots of leg room. What you would expect from a traditional airline. Bonus: great views from the pane."

Contras: "Our bag ( and others) were left behind as a company policy appatently. We waited for it and had to file a complaint and then it arrived with the next flight 6 h later. So we waisted time, energy and frustration. Could just book less people on the flight??"

Prós: "Flight from Boston to Ponta Delgada featured remarkable service and surprisingly tolerable food."
Contras: "The plane was old and in a state of some disrepair. We were in the exit row and immediately noticed plastic chipped off of the exit door and broken case covering the emergency release handle. Not reassuring, but we got there in one piece."

Contras: "I paid for business and there were no TVs or any entertainments from Portugal to Boston on Airbus 321. The seats barely reclined so basically I was charged for business and got a premium economy seat. They do not have a business section, never flying with them again."

Contras: "There were 2 other couples in the situation described above. We waited in line and got to the agent first, but upon realizing he had more than one couple in our situation, he agreed to help us all as a group. He gave us our tickets for the new flights one by one. When we got onto the aircraft we realized that we were in the far rear of the plane and the two couples (4 tickets) BEHIND us in the original line were given tickets in the business class portion of the plane, all the way in front. We were seated between two screaming babies and their parents, cramped in an aisle and middle seat. When I originally booked the reservation, I had paid extra money for the seats we preferred. Our new flight gave us the worst seats on the plane while giving the couples behind us in line the best."

Contras: "Almost everything seemed to be out-of-order and the crew seemed to be really struggling in order to bring some level of comfort to the on-board passengers."

Contras: "We missed the plane from Boston to Denver but it turn out good. We were tired anyway."

Prós: "... efficient, intelligent simplicity. Great job!"

Contras: "extremely small seating"

Contras: "Boarding was slow and had people check in at the gate just to wait at the bottom of the stairs for 10-15 minutes in a hot stuffy area because there was no cobus available to transfer people to the aircraft! For the second time flying with Azores Airlines, the in-flight entertainment system did not work in all seats, only in some; of course not ours. Very disappointing and boring for long overseas flights!"

Contras: "Delayed 4 hrs; boarding agent couldn't give any details (meanwhile me kids are screaming); seats were narrow and I couldn't lift the armrest up out of the way. Food was terrible. No entertainment visible from our seats and the headphones didn't work. Flight from BOS was much of the same. NEVER FLYING SATA AGAIN!"

Contras: "Waited in line 30 minutes before boarding even though we had already been through security. Business and first class passengers not given any priority in boarding. Limited food and beverage service onboard. Crew seemed inexperienced."

Prós: "Honestly, they had the best plane food I've had in a while. Flight very comfortable and uneventful, they even gave us blankets and pillows."

Prós: "The staff were great and the flight was very steady."
Contras: "The seats were very cramped, more than any other flight I've been on."

Prós: "The crew were PHENOMENAL going out of their way to ensure the needs of the passengers were met - truly the backbone of Azores Airlines. The seats on the Airbus 330 were relatively comfortable with decent pitch and extendable headrests."
Contras: "Boarding was delayed twice for a little over an hour total - limited time to make transfer in ponta delgada."

Prós: "Mostly lovely crew"
Contras: "2 hours on tarmac before taking off, no water or bathrooms then, 1/2 hour on tarmac when landed, when plane reeked of gas. Woman in front of me had chair armrest fall off"

Prós: "The plane seemed mostly empty, so I had a row of seats to myself, but the armrests didn't really go up all the way, so I couldn't lay down. The crew overall seemed attentive. Look, the plane departed and arrived more or less on time, which is all I really care about. All of the creature comforts people complain about pale in comparison to the miracle of mass transportation by airplane for a good price."
Contras: "The boarding process was rough. We were kept waiting in a hot bus until the plane was ready for at least twenty minutes. The entertainment was shoddy, an Ice Age sequel on a small screen several rows away with terrible sound quality."

Contras: "Extremely old plane - no air vents, very hot and uncomfortable No soap in bathrooms Service wasn't great Boarding process was very long Entertainment limited Didn't offer water during the flight outside of main foodservice"

Prós: "everithing is good"

Contras: "Both times I have flown this airline it was late--the first time 13 hours without any explanations and constant promises of it just being a few more hours, the second flight was 2 hours. In the airport in Portugal, they transport you by bus to the airplane and make you sit on the crowded bus at least 30-45 minutes. Then it takes another hour to load the plane. This is an 8 plus hour flight--they have the same 4 movies both directions."

Prós: "Spacious"
Contras: "Delayed 4 times without explanation. No option to select vegetarian meal at time of ticket purchase or check in. Boarding is a free for all. No order, just a mass of people funneling in to get through the gate. Then had to get on a shuttle bus to the plane... which took us to the wrong plane. Boarding the plane is also a free for all. The disorganization must have at least doubled the required boarding time."

Prós: "Happy for the incoming Barcelona passengers to make this flight. Ticket agent told us how to snag a couple of free seats, once everyone on board, so we could stretch out for 5 hr. flight. They serve brewed tea!"
Contras: "One hour late departing made for an extra long day of traveling. Be prepared for boarding a bus at gate to get to plane."

Prós: "Staff"
Contras: "Ponta Delgada ground staff misguided us with less than 30 min to catch connecting flight..."

Prós: "Doss improved from first experience but still mediocre; staff friendly overall"

Contras: "Major delay caused major inconvenience for a senior in her 70's traveling alone."

Prós: "Earlier TAP flight was late and caused me to miss my connecting flights."
Contras: "Flight was cancelled because TAP flight was 2 hours late in picking me up."

Prós: "The crew was friendly and worked hard as a team. Especially the more mature male FA. Was able to get preassigned seats! Counter staff was friendly too. Wine served was good and free."
Contras: "Did not mind that there was no movie etc. We didn't even accept the earphones. The food and Azores cookies were not very good. Be forewarned! LIS airport is not very user friendly. Often had to take and wait for buses to transfer from one area to another and up/down stairs ways. Consider checking your bags!"

Prós: "Food was pretty good and staff was nice"
Contras: "Plane was dirty. Tray tables had food on them. Crumbs in seat crevices. Boarding was an absolute nightmare as we were crammed in a shuttle bus for a half hour and then waited on the tarmac for close to an hour"

Prós: "We arrived safely. Which is most important. However..."
Contras: "Everything. This airline is the bare minimum. No TV's, no WIFI, uncomfortable seats, no leg room, NO AIR VENT, narrow isles, unfriendly flight attendants... Should I continue? There are no amenities with this airline. It's like stepping back in time... Worst airline I have ever flown!"

Prós: "We didn't crash."
Contras: "So far as I can tell, Azores doesn't particularly know how to run a plane. Their service was laughably bad, if you aren't in the plane suffering it. Boarding is bad. They start about 45 minutes prior to the flight, and need it because they're gonna bus you out to the plane. There is no order to who gets on first, you just get into the mob-like line and hope for the best. Once we got to the plane, we waited standing for no apparent reason for about 30 minutes. No announcement was made (in Portuguese or English). Because there was no order to how people got onto the busses, people blocked the isle getting onto the plane as well. Result, we departed Lisbon 1 hour late. There was a connection in the Azores. There everyone had to deplane, even if you were continuing on (more busses). And then getting onto the plane was the same deal. Result, we departed the islands even later, finally reaching Boston 2:15 late. Amazingly, my connecting flight wouldn't leave for another 40 minutes. The lady at the exit ramp told me that should be enough time to get through customs and over to the connection. Unsurprisingly it wasn't. On the plane, the seats were small and uncomfortable. Leg room was minimal. The seats had screens built into the back of them, but none of them worked. The only 'entertainment' we got was watching Linux continuously reboot on the seat screen next to mine. My personal screen didn't even offer this. Food was dry crackers, and an equally dry and sad sandwich. Portions were very small, so plan on packing a lunch. They do offer complimentary beer and wine, but getting a steward over to serve you is near impossible. Service was gruff, and frequently not very polite. I was hit by stewards running (actually running) up and down the isle. Stewards seemed generally more interested in talking in the back of the plane than serving passengers."

Prós: "The a330 was nice, seats had a good incline and cabin crew was very accommodating and friendly to me."
Contras: "In flight entertainment didn't work at all Food was bland, but somewhat on par with American carriers (low bar). But the ticket was pretty cheap. Very cold"

Prós: "Really enjoyed this flight. seats were comfortable, crew was friendly. Enjoyed the wine"
Contras: "Only one choice of sandwich which was meat. I am a vegetarian and hoped there was a choice."
