We tried twice to fly home earlier because we knew the flights were going to get cancelled but the airlines wanted to charge us $1500 for that. So when the time came and the flights got cancelled they were trying to adjust the flights and we got stranded away from our kids. Overall it was not a great experience as far as their customer service and we were not happy with how they chose to handle things."

Everyone was in waiting area then told to get out and stand in line for passport check. It happened each time so this seems to be their normal process. On flight back they bused us to the airplane and waited for all three buses to arrive at the airplane before allowing anyone to board. Flight attendants helped with moving carry on bags in bins but with little consideration to the items. Completely unorganized boarding process to the point it is worth paying a little more to fly a different airline."

Contras: "Not having extra legroom is one thing but not having enough space to fit ones leg reminded me of the slave ships where slaves were placed so tight that they did not have any moving space. I am not even a tall guy - just 5'10". It was bad especially when one travels internationally for 14 hours non-stop. There should be some federal regulation regarding this."

Prós: "The food was delicious. I have never had better airplane food. The movies were super new and interesting. I did not have time in the 11 hours of flying to watch all the movies I wanted to. The flight was also incredibly smooth."
Contras: "There were a few small things that could have been better (Which I'll mention), but the worst thing about the flight was the airport. Ataturk Airport is a mess. After the attempted coup, they really upped security, forcing all international flights to go through a second security screening after transferring from another airport. It's understandable but the line moved at a molasses-like speed when I had only 25 minutes to make my connecting flight. The security personnel were rude, as well. Also, when I went to make my connecting gate in Cairo, there was no one at the gate after the required boarding time (Because security had held us up), forcing some of us to board the plane without having anyone to show us onto the plane (Very scary). The flight boarding was chaotic, and no announcements were made about what we were supposed to do. Besides the lack of boarding gates, the only other serious complaint I had against Turkish Airlines (Because it really was great overall) was that the pilots and flight attendants were very hard to understand. I have taught ESL for the past 5 years, and I still had a hard time as an American understanding their English. Also, they frequently didn't understand or misunderstood questions that I would ask them. I've never had a hard time understanding flight attendants on an international flight, but I only understood about 20% of what anyone said over the loud speaker in the plane. And it's nice to be able to understand when the pilot says, "We are experiencing some turbulence and would like everyone to buckle their seatbelts until it passes." Two small things remain: 1. The bathroom trash cans were full on every flight (A small thing but makes everything feel "trashy"). 2. The flight attendants seemed unhappy, and they definitely seemed unhappy to be serving us. I can only assume they are that way because they aren't treated particularly well by their bosses."

Before leaving to Istanbul when we were in New York we asked if they would reroute our flights from New York City to Naples, Italy since the terrorist attack occurred in Istanbul causing the airport to be shut down. We were reassured that there would be no problems and we would be rerouted once we landed in Turkey, and lo and behold our flights were canceled. We had to spend the day in Turkey, pay for our own food, and pay for the visa €30 per person. This all could have been avoided had they rerouted our flights to another city."
Prós: "I really like the fact that they still prepare food for their passengers, however, the quality of the food was less than average They prepare you with the eye mask and the slippers, and a thin sheet of blankets for longer flight, which was really nice. The seats are comfortable, and there are a larger selection of movies and songs to choose from which were also great. The flight was relatively stable. I didn't ever realize that we took off, maybe i was too tired to notice, i don't know."
Contras: "The boarding was really slow, it was not on time. The food was less than average, but better than not have any. It was hard to find assistance. The flight seemed a bit old, because we weren't able to turn off our light which caused some inconvenience."

Lufthansa is normally amazing quality but both flights today were subpar. Bathroom smelled of urine, old and dirty seats with no support. Dirty hand rests and outdated screens which skipped with movies"

Prós: "MAN-MUC & MUC-CPH via LH. Business class. LH Businesss class is middle seat of 3 is empty and larger amounts of baggage plus you have access to lounges. Both planes flew and arrived reasonably on time, which is what I look for.And I got all the Business Class extras."
Contras: "Security at Manchester was very slow - long enough make me ill from standing in one place too long. But then I was well looked after. The meals on both flights were identical; I don't think it can be a big problem to correct that. I took a long time to get accepted by the WiFi in the two lounges."

Contras: "I didn’t like it because when I asked for a big water bottle, they refused to gove it to me while I am sick and suffer dry throat. The space is rather small. If you are 5ft 5 and above person, I honestly would suggest you buy extra legroom for comfortable purposes. Also, there is like 1 restroom on the whole plane and if you sot at the end, you are screw. Lets not forget that they delayed our flights like 4 hours and only gave us 1 voucher for snack. I don’t expect the experience will be fancy but this is a total disappointment!"

If I book with Lufthansa, then I can't book my United seats. I have booked with United and paid for economy plus, then find as I board, the Lufthansa flight doesn't have economy plus."

Contras: "Mishandling of an online upgrade request caused major headaches and an hour at service desk - final boarding passes were misprinted and, bottom line, our luggage was not loaded on our flight and arrived about 36 hours after us! Premium Economy seats were pretty nice but I don't like the tray-in-the-arm configuration. Extra recline just meant the jerk in front of me was in my face the whole flight."

Would not book again using Lastminute.com, nor Lufthansa, as they provided a lack of service and no help for her to change her flight - even though the ticket was nearly €200 and she was clearly distressed and upset."

I’ve never had a problem with my backpack before, and it fits well within the size restrictions and easily fits in the overhead.. then they were unable to transfer my bag that I payed 40 euro to check, to my connecting flight. Therefore I had to wait two days to receive my luggage at my final destination in Rome.. Overall a really mediocre and frustrating experience."

Also, before I departed from the US, the customer service rep at JFK made me purchase a refundable plane ticket for $2500, and charged me a non refundable fee of $35 for booking the flight for me ( I asked how to do it via the Iberia website on my phone and she refused to help me, and the website makes it extremely not obvious how to book a refundable flight). She said because my flight was one way to Europe I had to have an onward flight, even though I was traveling by car outside of Europe. She said that they would ask me for it at customs when I arrived in Europe. Well they have never asked me for this before, and they did not ask me this time either when I arrived, so this whole exercise was pointless. When I called to get my ticket refunded, they also charged me a $25 fee for refunding the ticket, which the agent in NY did not tell me about. So I just ate $60 for no reason. In addition, the customer service person was very rude about the whole thing."

Everyone was angry. A very unpleasant airport experience. Which certainly lends itself to an unpleasant flight experience. People were so worked up the tension was palpable. A problem easily fixed, if only there was some care. The passport check attendants moved at a snails pace. It felt deliberate. In these trying times, I was not impressed."

For example, not all devices also for the download of certain files to java script which is necessary to gain access to the in flight entertainment."

Once on the plane, told the air traffic control radars lost power and we'd be delayed another 30 mins. Entertainment required me to pay for broadcast channels."

The screen was smeared with some substance. The list of movies on the United entertainment app is great (via internet) but connectivity on this type of flight is spotty so the traveler is forced back to the antique screen plane system. Dinner. Butter chicken or vegetable options. Food was bland and very small portions for the length of flight. The snack was delivered immediately after dinner was picked up. I did not open it. Looked like a hard roll with something on it. Style of service is abrupt, bordering on rude. Uses terminology that non-US travelers from different cultures would not understand, for instance do you want "white" coffee. Asked me if I had someone at home to pick up after me as she felt she was cleaning too much off the floor. Her comments appeared to be directed at me but it was not my trash (and even if it was, a better approach would be recommended). The flight attendant realized she had gone too far and apologized. Then complained about this "route" being difficult, with no one listening. She concluded by wishing me a good flight and saying that she hoped that she had not offended me. I assured her that she had. Breakfast was mediocre. Egg with soggy potatoes and an inedible sausage. Did not see what they were offering in the veggie dish. Staff seems tired and not culturally sensitive. There needs to be some retraining and consideration given to long haul menus and entertainment. I take this flight at least once a year. It continues to deteriorate."
