Prós: Great staff. Great rooms. Loved the bikes. Private pool and spa were awesome...
Contras: Food is pricey. places to visit outside the resort are further away. Beach is small and has huge sand bars
Prós: Excelente equipe. Ótimos quartos. Adorei as bicicletas. A piscina e o spa privados eram incríveis...
Contras: A comida é cara.
Prós: The only thing that was lacking in quality were the bed sheets. For a 5 star resort the sheets were old and covered with pill balls. Also I don't like the fact that people get up and "save" chairs early in the morning without even sitting there during the day. The system should be when you leave the lounge chair you take your saving towel so someone can sit there and use the chair. Most of the time there were approximately 2/3 of the chairs empty just being "saved". This is not necessarily the fault of the resort but of people just being rude.
Prós: The service, food, and location were excellent. The staff were genuinely happy to be of assistance and always greeted us with a smile.
Prós: Staff very kind and courteous. Animation team is so fun.
Contras: Wish it was less expensive.
Prós: Everything. It was amazing.
Prós: Food, service, entertainment. Everything was perfect in my opinion.
Prós: This was one of the best all inclusive properties I have been to. Room, staff, food, pools, bars and entertainment all were amazing. I loved the hydro therapy as well. Plus, as a bonus, the front door was right on 5th avenue, allowing us to shop, go to bars and grab off resort food. If you are looking for a chance to get both all inclusive and experience Playa Del Carmen, I highly recommend the Royal!
Contras: The beach was horrible - rocky and full of seaweed. However, as I personally hate sand and salt water, this did not bother me in the slightest. This actually made my stay better, as we stuck to the pool, bars and 5th avenue.
Prós: Amazing...and I always choose 5 star resorts. One of the best I've ever experienced.
Contras: The hotel should do a better job of explaining all there is to offer and an initial tour...it really has excellent offerings, but we had to navigate/learn a lot on our own. It would have been helpful to have more information upfront.
Prós: Our room was gorgeous
Shows were great
Food was great
Loved how we could walk out to 5th Avenue
Most of the staff was friendly
Beach was well kept
Contras: Pool was freezing
I felt like they were always trying to sell something to us
Beach chairs were old- they need some serious updating!
Good size rooms
Contras: Food was just ok
Bedding sheets should be improved
Improve lounge facilities
Prós: The staff were incredible.. Beautiful resort, good good options
Contras: Horrible Horrible Smell from ocean like sewage. It was extremely hard to enjoy the beach. No eating at the pools
Prós: Everything was perfect; better than we could have imagined! The attention to detail was probably the best part and the staff always so friendly and willing to assist w/o any expectation of a tip but very grateful when one was provided.
Contras: Absolutely not.
Prós: A great location with beachfront and close to all restaurants and night life, and surprisingly quiet at night even when it´s located one block from 5ta Avenida. Hotel is quite new and very well designed.
Prós: The location is fantastic. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and decorated nicely. For the money this hotel is absolutely a great great deal!!
Contras: Because my wife and I stayed there last year and were responsible for five rooms this year's trip, based on our recommendation, it would have been nice to receive some sort of appreciation discount.
Prós: Location is good, next block to 5th Ave. Design of Hotel's public area is very unique, modern and open. Staffs are friendly. Love love pool area, infinity pool, view is great!
Contras: Public area is open and is in the middle, there's not enough privacy in your balcony. Most of the rooms are facing to lobby, cafe or bar. Room is very humit, because of poor design of bathroom. Beach is narrow and public.
Prós: The property is large but just amazing. The waterways make this place very special. The staff are top notch. Toiletries are divine. Having water sup boards and kayaks add so much.
Contras: Not enough bikes around.
Prós: Access to bikes for all hotel guest was a great way to get around.
Prós: The location is great and it LOOKS like a tropical paradise. If you are in your 20's or only visiting for 1 or 2 days this is a great spot.
Contras: The sound from Mamelita's is consistent and all-present from about noon until 7 or 8pm each night. When I say sound, I mean a massive bass that permeates all structures and covers the beach from South to North. There was unfortunately 2 weddings during our stay and I felt terrible for those brides having beach ceremonies with bumping bass.
The houses with straw roofs have a consistent "wood rot" smell and there are termites in the exterior porches.
Prós: Clean rooms, with good facilities. No TV or coffee machine, etc. beach, resturant and spa options were very good.
Staff was excellent....and I mean across the board. Just amazing.
Contras: Rooms, facilities, location, staff and secluded beach.
I enjoyed it so much, already booked another trip in early 2017.
The central location to Playa Del Carmen was especially appreciated.
Prós: Stayed two nights with my boyfriend and we loved this place. We tend to avoid the mega resort hotels so this was perfect. Took advantage of the half board, the food was good, not anything that stood out but appreciated. The drinks were about $5 USD which is ok, wish happy hour were longer. Tell them to make the margaritas strong :) The location was great! Loved being right on the beach and also able to walk quinta avenida in the evenings. All the staff was incredibly friendly, always trying to help. We did not have issues with noise at all. In fact I thought the music could have been a bit louder at the pool. I brought my own speaker to the beach for music but tried not to play it too loudly.
Prós: Wait staff, location, breakfasts, porches, relaxation, most definitely recommended!
Contras: Low pressure showers, noisy neighborhood bar every night with the boom, boom
Prós: The accommodations were wonderful; rooms were beautiful. The evening restaurants were good. The grounds are beautifully kept. We enjoyed the evening showing and the pool/beach activities. Easy 10 minute walk to PlayaCar for souvenirs.
Contras: The buffet for breakfast and lunch was only so so. There is no hair conditioner in the bathrooms. Our room had mosquitos but once reported they fumigated and then no other bug issues inside.
Prós: The grounds are beautiful, impeccably cleaned, the jungle animals are fun to watch.
Contras: Nothing I would change
Prós: The Iberostar Tucan / Quetzal is one of my favorite resorts in the Mexican Rivera Maya. The dining buffets are fine, and there's always some food offered that you've never tried. It's fun to experiment with new tastes. This was my fourth visit. The staff are very courteous and speak several languages. The fun begins with the jungle in the center of the resort. A large canopy of trees with well lit winding paths takes you from your room to the waterfront pools. New additions this year included a balcony overlooking the flamingo pond, a boardwalk in the center of the jungle, and a new waterfall with Mayan statues hidden in the rocks. The wild animals living in the jungle run free and appear tame, but you are warned not to feed them.
Peacocks are everywhere, and you can get some great photos of the males spreading out their huge feathers. If you stay near buildings 14 and 13 expect to have howler monkeys swinging through the treetops to get to their feeding areas. They wake up at dawn with ferocious howls that remind you that, yes, you are far from home and now in a tropical paradise.
Contras: A surprise this time was the renovation of one of the buffet restaurants, what was once an intimate rustic buffet is now a separated modern glass and steel food service area with a longer walk to your table. I preferred the rustic design but was told Iberostar plan to remodel the other buffet restaurants with the same bright white modern sterile design.
Prós: The beach and pool are amazing and HUGE! The food in the restaurants was excellent. The food at the buffet was good. They did a great job of trying to include foods at the buffet that would appeal to guests from all countries, and it gave us a chance to try different foods that we would never typically order in a restaurant. There were always snacks and ice cream available by the pool, which was great. The entertainment staff, Star Friends, was amazing! They work around the clock to entertain the guests and always seem to have activities, games, or shows going on that are actually entertaining, whether you're participating or just watching. The nightly shows were a bit hit or miss, but they get an A+ for effort and enthusiasm. For some of the shows, they brought in professional dancers or entertainers and those were excellent. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The refrigerator was restocked daily with water, soda, and beer. The drinks were weak, but we liked that since we could drink all day at the beach and all night at the bars without being too affected by the alcohol! The disco was a great place to listen to music and relax at night after the shows. It wasn't very busy when we were there, but the bartenders were amazing and so friendly! We never felt pressured to tip anyone, and they almost seemed surprised when we did tip them. Overall, our trip was amazing!
Contras: This did not bother me, but it is not a fancy "luxury" resort, so people with extremely high standards or expensive taste might want to stay elsewhere.
Prós: The grounds were just beautiful and the room was very clean and nice. A peaceful oasis just a few steps from all he action on 5th. The staff was wonderful!
Great location, lots of charm, many hidden private spaces, great staff and very pretty grounds.
Prós: Beds were hard and a little creeky
Contras: Really could use a hot tub
We came for our third year anniversary and had an amazing time! I could go on about this place but then the ratings and pricing would go up! Great find and can't wait to come back!
Prós: This gem of a hotel surpassed my expectations! It was so charming and well kept. The staff was very friendly and told us the best places to eat, sight see and beaches! The continental breakfast was perfect! Would definitely come back again!
Contras: The only thing was that the bed was a little too firm for my liking.
It has a great location!
Prós: Excellent customer service
Contras: Everything is nice
My husband and I decided on this hotel for a second honeymoon. We were pleasantly surprised at the amazing time we had. The hotel is tucked neatly away in Playa del Carmen a short walk from the beach. While near the main strip the hotel is very quiet. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and shown our room after a short brief of the amenities and surrounding area. We had lunch on the grounds at the Mayan Bistro after we put the bags up. We wound up sitting there eating and drinking until dark. The gardens are inviting and the sound of the fountain brought us to a level of relaxation we had not experienced in a long time. As the week progressed we were more and more convinced to bring back the whole family next year. Tranquility, and a sense of removal from the city were important. We received that here. As well, a proper bed is important to me and the beds are memory foam. I slept very comfortably every night. The hotel manager Louis was engaging and checked with us to ensure our happiness and came to our rescue more than once during our stay. As well the food and beverage manager, Chris was engaging and asked after our satisfaction. This hotel is a GEM! I met people on the grounds that were on their sixth visit. With all the choices in Play del Carmen I could see why. Once you stay at this hotel you will want to go back.
Prós: The room was nicely decorated and clean. The bed was memory foam and amazing - top quality. The staff was attentive and amazingly helpful. The grounds were beautiful and family friendly. But there were areas for adults only which was a plus.
Contras: I don't have a single negative thing to say about the hotel.
Prós: the decor
Contras: the toilets are not physically separated from the living and breathing spaces in the room. It is awkward to urinate with no door!
Prós: Nice compromise between authentic Mexican and a more modern hotel.
Contras: Got tired of climbing the stairs. An elevator would have been nice.
A charming older hotel where there were flowers, stairs, hallways, palm trees, and pools that broke the place up. You felt like you were in a smaller hotel. We were given a roof top room, very large with our own patio. On our bed to greet us was a towel swan. The only complaint with the room was a lack of hot water. There was enough but it could have been hotter and more pressure. The shower itself was a large walk in shower.
Prós: I was so surprised on how nice this hotel was. At the price I was expecting a lot less. The staff was very nice. I really like the separation between the family side and single/couples. the hotel has so much charm!
Contras: Mexico. While I thought Playa was better than Cancun about ripping off the gringo, I was wrong. We got stopped leaving the hotel by the police for going the wrong way on an unmarked 'one way ' street. Officers wouldn't give us the ticket, just $50.00 cash
Prós: It was in a good location. Quiet off the main drag but close enough to be close to the things most people want to check out. The pools and grounds were very attractive.
Contras: The staff were not really all that...easy to approach or good communicators, seemed like the guests were a distraction. Also, they said they had Yoga, and they might have, but it was not something that was easy to set up or attend.
Cute and small, very clean and quiet. Ideal location
Prós: Customer service was superb
Contras: Rooms have sliders for doors. Not very private.
Amazing hotel! Staff are very well organize and went above and beyond for us. Our made service is extremely thorough with cleaning and the room is spotless! It's next to fifth ave of playa del Carmen where the restaurants, lounges and clubs are but our hotel was still Quiet. This botique hotel is a hidden gem! Nice pools and it's 24 hours so after a night out hangout in the pool and have a glass of wine. When visiting play del Carmen stay in a botique hotel to enjoy 5th avenue and the local foods. Safe walk and most of the time I'm walking by myself. If your not staying in this hotel at least heck out the Mayan Bistro highly recommended :)
Prós: Fantastic staff! Shout out to Enrique in customer service and nicolas in dining at Mayan bistro you guys are great people and made my stay very comfortable!
Prós: Attention of staff, quality of food, variety of menus
Contras: I think it lacks maintenance to certain areas of the hotel. I had to change rooms because the doors were falls and the pool of the villa did not work
Contras: Grounds too big.
Too much walked by to get anywhere.
Staff pretends to care but really doesn't
Beware of the tours they are very misleading
Not a whole lot too do on the massive grounds
Very reminiscent of a low budget cruise ship.
A lot of money spent on beauty of hotel but not anything that benefits the guest.
Food ok at best
No beach besides the man made one. Which is not actually on the beach. The ruins look man made and there are rocks all along the real beach. Don't expect sand. There is none.
Don't expectt any major benefit to staying here because of proximity to Excaret. There isn't a major benefit because you have to pay extra for Xcaret just like anyone else would. The unlimited experience is a trap to get you to go for 3 days. Don't waste your 350.00.
I could go on and on.
We complained about things to staff to no concern
Prós: Beautiful Location
Contras: A very nice resort in a beautiful location. The grounds were large enough to have lots of activity...or find quiet areas to relax
Prós: Very nice and relaxing!
Contras: All the outlets in our rooms did not work well.
Prós: A localização era muito
Contras: Lembrando a equipe para limpar o nosso quarto.
Prós: The facility was outstanding. A great place for the family. Wonderful staff and a perfect location close to downtown.
Contras: Lack of entertainment. Food could use some improvement.
Prós: We were pleased with the variety and quality of the food from the Sol/Luna Grill restaurants except BBQ night.
Contras: La Palapa del Sol's main food is buffet. We are not buffet people. Many of the better items on their full service menu cost extra for the All Inclusive people.
Prós: The staff were incredible. Great, personalized service from all of the staff made this stay exceptional.
The facilities were modern, clean and well kept. The activity equipment was available and in good condition and the beach/poolside areas were clean and comfortable.
For the most part the food and drinks were excellent. The buffet food was typical of what you would expect of a resort/hotel buffet but the poolside restaurants and bars had excellent offerings. La Rotonda bar had great sushi and wonderful service. The Los Murales restaurant was phenomenal. The food was excellent and the staff was attentive and pleasant.
Contras: Had an issue with my original booking but the customer service department of the hotel was able to work it out after a few phone calls.
The WiFi wasn't the best. The signal was strong around the resort but connectivity was often poor. When we were able to connect, speeds were acceptable for email and limited web browsing.
The whirlpools are quite cool- barely warmer than the pool itself.
Prós: Propriedade excelente. Um ótimo lugar para a família. Equipe maravilhosa e localização perfeita perto do centro.
As instalações eram modernas, limpas e bem conservadas.
Prós: Cheap, a/c in spacious rooms, center of town, friendly staff, couple blocks from beach. Let us use their bug spray as mosquitos in PdC are no joke - saved us!
Prós: I loved that they were so environmentaly conscious, the breakfast was delicious and the whole place was just so relaxing. It's also located at a perfect spot near the clubs/bars, restaurants, shops and mall! The staff was also excellent and very helpful. Overall great experience.
Contras: The only thing I didn't like, which isn't a big deal, was the cafe closes early.
Prós: We have stayed here before and it's a good value and a good location. Rooms are nice and it's a block off the busy tourist street making it quiet and comfortable.
Contras: Having to email my Kayak confirmation email to the reception staff when I arrived.
Prós: The staff was absolutely wonderful unbelievable service they always go the extra mile and treat you as if you're part of the family could not be happier to recommend the hotel to anyone who is staying either short or long term very very good hotel!
Prós: Great value, very comfy bed
Contras: Water was warm but I like my shower to be a little hotter.
