The room was cleaned and made up very nicely each day. Different animals made out of the shower towels were placed on the bed each night. The food was not up to the usual standards for a hotel of this price range. Spent a lot of time pushing time share options....
Location The rooms were musty smelling. By the end of the trip, everyone had runny noses from what was most likey mold causing the musty smell. Service was terrible, I understand nothing happens quickly in foreign countries, but they were not helpful and didn't care, unlike other all inclusive I've been to in Mexico. The AC in one room did not work, they didn't not want to move the people in that room to a new room with working AC and instead said "Oh, it's working, you have to wait until the sun goes down for it to cool off." Really? No beach side drink orders, you have to go to the bar yourself. Food left a lot to be desired. The Mexican restaurant did not have AC and when we requested to be moved closer to the patio to feel the breeze, we were told no. There were only three other parties in the entire restaurant! I would not recommend this resort.
Generally it was clean and the booze was of good quality. No beach, poor service, resort smells bad and the food is not very good
The all inclusive nature was great, the staff were fantastic. The wine
Everything, was nice! access to the beach you could improve
Location - close to downtown Carmen Pool some staff Standard rooms are closets food was not impressive and repetitive low shelf alcohol for the price we had a lot better
The location (being right on the ocean and blocks away from 5th avenue), the price, having 2 meals included (which I would recommend switching your meals to breakfast and lunch so that you can go out to 5th avenue for dinner), the friendly staff, the disconnected tone of the property (no TV, no radio, no phone) which I wasn't aware of until we arrived but was very pleased with. Some feedback mentioned the beds being hard, but I never slept better, other feedback mentioned the food not being good, but I disagree, the breakfast included a full buffet of fresh fruit, breads and cereals but you can also order eggs, pancakes, french toast, etc. Lunch was great becuase there was enough of a variety to choose from(mexican, salads, sandwiches, etc) Quite a few mosquitos in the room, but I guess it's expected haivng the windows open all the time in a somewhat humid climate.
The location is great and it LOOKS like a tropical paradise. If you are in your 20's or only visiting for 1 or 2 days this is a great spot. The sound from Mamelita's is consistent and all-present from about noon until 7 or 8pm each night. When I say sound, I mean a massive bass that permeates all structures and covers the beach from South to North. There was unfortunately 2 weddings during our stay and I felt terrible for those brides having beach ceremonies with bumping bass. The houses with straw roofs have a consistent "wood rot" smell and there are termites in the exterior porches.
The verandah with hammocks and the separate bungalows were great, everything was just steps from the beach. Many palm trees around made you feel like you were in a somewhat remote area, yet you were only blocks from all the nightlife in Playa del Carmen. Security personnel were on the beach all the time to insure the resort chairs and grass huts (palapas) were available to the guests and to keep the resort private. I felt very safe all the time! There is a lack of instructional material that would help travellers visiting the hotel know what to do: ie: trade beach towels in each day at front desk for new ones, a menu in the room to help decide if you want to have lunch or dinner each day, whether there is take out food from the restaurant or whether food can be ordered at the bar and during what times, etc
Stayed two nights with my boyfriend and we loved this place. We tend to avoid the mega resort hotels so this was perfect. Took advantage of the half board, the food was good, not anything that stood out but appreciated. The drinks were about $5 USD which is ok, wish happy hour were longer. Tell them to make the margaritas strong :) The location was great! Loved being right on the beach and also able to walk quinta avenida in the evenings. All the staff was incredibly friendly, always trying to help. We did not have issues with noise at all. In fact I thought the music could have been a bit louder at the pool. I brought my own speaker to the beach for music but tried not to play it too loudly.
Location! Nice budget bungalow style beach resort. Food at dinner was very good! No refrigerator! Air conditioning was not strong enough. Safe was too small. Sand everywhere in your bungalow...
Nice place right on the beach with a very friendly staff. Many of the people had been coming there for years and we can understand why. If you like the full service, all-inclusive, amenities out the wazoo, pamper me till I pop type of service then this is NOT the place for you. If you do like a casual, comfortable, quiet, intimate surroundings that are on the beach, but a short walk to downtown shopping and partying, then this is a great place. Nothing against the hotel, we knew what we were booking. We wished we had brought a laptop and movies for those nights when we decided to hang in the room so we would have had something to watch and chill out too.
Wait staff, location, breakfasts, porches, relaxation, most definitely recommended! Low pressure showers, noisy neighborhood bar every night with the boom, boom
Clean rooms, with good facilities. No TV or coffee machine, etc. beach, resturant and spa options were very good. Staff was excellent....and I mean across the board. Just amazing. Rooms, facilities, location, staff and secluded beach. I enjoyed it so much, already booked another trip in early 2017. The central location to Playa Del Carmen was especially appreciated.
I liked the grounds, very tropical and well-kept. The food was very good, and the staff went out of their way to take care of me.
great location, definitely the best beach around, took a walk on the beach to compare other beaches and hotels, Mahekal has definitely the best beach beachbar was missing,
comfort is basic but fair
Friendliness of staff, unplugged atmosphere, clean beach and pools, decent food, proximity to town Uncomfortable bed- mattress needed replacing
Pros: Very friendly staff, great location, nice rooms, good breakfast and good price! Cons: No internet in the rooms, which for us was very important! Wifi is very bad
Staff was prompt to correct issues Would of liked a little more excitement going on balcony with pool ementies, but then I can understand time period of my stay.
If you are looking for a disgusting two star motel, that has the trashiest, dirtiest drunken and loud slobs around, you've found your place. This is at best a 2 star motel. For how much they charge, this is despicable. The hair dryer is the ones on the wall you would find in a 2 star motel, all bathroom toiletries are unuseable and smells really gross. The bed is hard, uncomfortable and wrapped in plastic. There are weird stains on some of the pillows that was really disgusting. There IS no service, and it's really bad when they tried. Management must be awful. Every single time I've asked them to clean the room they had not, and house cleaning managed to try to come into the room to clean every single day for the week i was there for the 3 hours during the day I am actually in the room, all at different times, it's actually remarkable that they managed to do that. Hotel WILL CALL PRIOR TO CHECK OUT TIME TO BOOT YOU OUT. It's very possible that there are prostitutes at this hotel or this is the hotel that local mexican men bring their low end escorts to. Also very dishonest, tries to charge 2-3 times the rate available online, and then when you're about to book, they will then offer to match the pricing, you're better off not booking through them directly to make sure you don't get screwed. Overall, this is a run down, trashy motel that is not worth the money. You will actually experience 4 star or higher service at any of the other hotels in a similar price range including be playa, artisan, or any of the major hotel brands.
Beautiful hotel. Very nice and clean You can never have guests over. The staff and horrible and strict. It's like Fort Knox getting in and God forbid you want someone to come over to your suite for a drink before you go out. You can't unless you have their wristband. Definitely won't be staying here again.
