Contras: They woke us up at 7:50 to tell us about a restaurant we asked for breakfast recommendation.
The room is too small, with to storage space for a couple, a view of "the city" looks like a slam, lack of a 5-star quality, yet the service was good.
Prós: So much of your experience of Kyoto is where you are staying. I am so glad I changed hotels to stay at the Ritz one night. The service is outstanding, the location is incredible, and I had one of the nicest spa experiences of my whole life. Staying here will be one of my top memories of my lifetime. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Prós: The swimming pool.
Contras: The price to value was very high and the hotel billed me twice accidentally.
Prós: Very nice hotel. Highly recommended from a world traveler.
Prós: Great location! Easy access to bus lines and subways.
The bathroom is quite large relative to the room size. Effective use of space.
They can store your luggage for you free of charge if you arrive early. I did this and it was a huge lifesaver.
Contras: No minibar, but I never use that stuff anyway.
Prós: It's fine for a three star, but you are paying for five star which it doesn't live up to.
Contras: It's tricky one hostess was very helpful and another one yelled at us for canceling a cab, it was very strange. The beds are so hard, it was terrible. Also they don't have a bag room so the lobby is absolutely filled with bags because of all the tour groups. Also bar extremely overpriced. Overall it is extremely overpriced for what you get. Use that same amount and go stay in one of the traditional hotels in the cute part of town.
Prós: Hotel muito agradável. Altamente recomendado a partir de um viajante do mundo.
Prós: Favorite hotel we stayed at in Japan. Staff was really nice and helpful. The japenese style room was great, set up so nicely. Did not feel like a hotel, very comfortable. Clean room, bathroom was nice, mini fridge in the room, vending machines and coin laundry in the hallway. Public baths were a fun experience.
Contras: Location is good, lots of shopping near by. Finding the hotel entrance was a little tricky, you need to go down the alley.
Prós: The whole hotel was so fancy and My parents got satisfied by their kind service. Amenities were good, ah they supplied us twin double bed and it was also good. The room was clean and comfortable.
Contras: The only problem of this hotel was the location. Not too bad but can't explain it's good. We 4 families always used taxi but solo or couple travelers may feel the taxi fee in Osaka is a little bit expensive.
Prós: This hotel is part of the JR hotel group the hotel has very helpful staff who speak English well. The location can't be beat. It is central and easy to go any where from this location. Rooms are quiet and well serviced.
Prós: close to kyoto station, clean, helpfull staff can speaking english
Contras: such a expensive room rate but doesn't include breakfast or dinner ?
Prós: Elegant design, classy rooms and amenities, attentive staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay especially the onsen/ spa, which was a real treat after long sightseeing days in Kyoto. Location is excellent.
Contras: Restaurant is nice, although lacking in continental cuisine. Fitness/ gym centre would have been a plus.
Prós: This hotel felt almost brand new and for the price, it was an amazing value. I was staying at other value hotels in the area but when I found this hotel I thought I would give it try based on ratings. I was not disappointed - it had a feel of a medium priced hotel in the US (think Hilton or Marriott) but I paid closer to the lower range of a budget hotel. Granted, I am not going during peak season. The interiors was luxurious and everything felt new. I would stay here again, hands down.
Contras: It's a bit hard to find because it's in an alley way and generally signage is hard to see anywhere in this part of Kyoto. Be prepare to have your gps on to find this spot.
Prós: Staff were fantastic - very knowledgeable and attentive. The breakfast buffet was also delicious - huge variety and everything I tried was very good.
Contras: I was fine with it, but some foreigners may not like the pillows (one side was cushiony and the other side was a bean bag style filling). However, I did see another guest returning to his room with a couple plush looking pillows so it appears you can request a more standard pillow if you prefer.
Prós: Liked the rooms, the bath, the location, the staff, the overall look and feel, the room amenities.
Contras: Not much! Room was a little tight but it was 3 beds so can't really complain. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant, so can't comment. We'd definitely come back.
Prós: Excellent hotel, clean, modern. Concierge was very helpful. Internet was free and reasonably fast. Location is a little away from the main sites to see but relatively close to Kyoto station. Overall, excellent place to stay. Please do not bring your kids here.
Contras: The entire hotel was generally excellent for adults, business travelers, solo travelers, romantic getaways. Exception was that there was one family with possibly the only children in the hotel running/stomping around. Not appropriate. Please don't bring your children, this is not Disneyland, or at least keep your children under better control.
Prós: Rooms nice modern and spacious. Great bathroom and shower. Staff all spoke English and extremely nice and helpful
Prós: I couldn't be happier with my stay at Hotel Vista Premio Kyoto Kawaramachi. I highly recommend this hotel if you're a city dweller. The hotel is centrally located to all the places you should visit in Kyoto City. It's a short walk to the famous Nishiki Market in one direction and wonderful little restaurants by the river at another. It's close to public transportation for day trips around other parts of town. The hotel staff is very helpful with directions and translation. Its not a luxury hotel but the room we stayed in was clean and orderly.
Contras: The beds are unusually firm! It may be a Japanese thing but it was the hardest bed I've slept in during my two weeks an Asia. I would not recommend this hotel if you need a soft mattress.
I knew I needed a larger room because we were traveling with three suitcases and a standard Japanese hotel room would drive me crazy, so I booked a deluxe room with two singles because I was also afraid the queen bed was not large enough for my partner and I so we slept in twin beds like I Love Lucy which was totally fine for three nights.
Prós: This is a great hotel for a good price. The room was very spacious. There were a lot of perks like included coffee and adult beverages. There is limited parking in the back that the front desk staff helped us get into (parking is on risers). Staff speaks great English. Huge shower and bathroom. Lots of amenities like laundry and onsite Onsen. I would stay again.
Contras: It was a little bit challenging to turn the air conditioner on (remote in Japanese) but we figured it out no problem.
Prós: Location was excellent, close to making shopping area. Big room for Japanese standard.
Contras: Staff not very friendly. Limited English with some staff. Concierge overwhelmed with people. Perhaps 2 at the desk would help. Very strict check out policy. Was not given a copy of my bill because I made the reservation over KAyak.
Prós: Lovely staff, very helpful. Hotel seemed oriented towards the business traveller and more for the older Japanese population. That said, it was a very good, very comfortable hotel. Good value!
Contras: The air conditioner in our room was broken. They couldn't fix it and offered no compensation for it. The rooms and main hallways were stuffy and filled with smoke.
Prós: We loved staying here. My only complaint is that it cost additional money to use the pool, if you chose to use the pool, and more importantly, that you had to be 18 years old to use the pool at all. My wife and I were traveling with our 9-year-old daughter, so none of used the pool because our daughter was too young. This was a huge downer, because Kyoto is very hot in August and we would have welcomed being able to cool off in the pool. By contrast, the hotel we stayed at in Tokyo (The Park Hyatt) had no age restrictions on pool usage (or usage fees) and we used the pool twice a day. Other than the disappointment about the pool, the Kyoto Hotel Okura was a total delight and perfectly located and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, and the free shuttle too and from Kyoto Station was a welcome surprise.
Contras: The pool cost money to use. And you need to be at least 18 to use it. This was a huge disappointment since we were traveling with our daughter, who is 9.
Prós: Great service that can be expected from the Okura brand. Was unexpectedly upgraded to a large room. Good location.
Prós: We loved almost everything about the Okura! Staff were very attentive and helpful with navigating for non-Japanese speaking guests. Facilities were in great shape. Insure dining had both local and international options. Subway access via basement connection and hotel shuttle to/from train station. So many amazing sites to see from there and tour company picked up at hotel.
Contras: Much of dining, as seems common in Good hotels in Japan, is fixed price. We found two good options, Merry Island(Italian) and a noodle house that I do not remember the name of, in easy walking distance.
Contras: Ceanliness was poor. Toilet was leaking on the floor and it was obvious the floor wasn't cleaned daily. We were out all day and upon returning, we saw the bathroom wasn't cleaned.
Also, we got a cab to take us to a nearby laundromat and then Kyoto station. We showed them the map the hotel passes out to guests. The taxi driver said he knew how to get there. He took us the opposite direction. After driving for about 8 min, I stopped him and told him he's going the wrong way. Thank goodness for GPS and smartphones. He had one too but couldn't figure how to get us to where we wanted. He ended up taking us back to the hotel and asking us to pay him the $11 on the meter. I told him it wasn't fair since he never took us where we wanted to go. He called the porter who insisted we pay the taxi. Even though I explained the situation, the porter took the taxi's story that I never gave the address. He heard my story and took the taxi's. We told him he picked us up from the hotel too and he still said we should pay. I told him I'm not paying and that I would walk to my destination. He insisted I give my name and room number. That was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Sad...
Prós: Simple. Clean. Very good access to JR Station. Fast wifi connection.
Prós: very clean and cozy hotel, convenient location
Prós: Hotel location is close to Kyoto train station and the new Aeon Shopping Mall.
Contras: The mattress is as firm as it gets. I had difficulty sleeping on my side or back. The hotel configuration is not suitable if your room is situated far from the elevator. It seems the elevator is at one end of hotel and our room at the opposite end. Hotel is U-shaped and we walked liked 200 meters to the elevators.
Prós: Convenient location to Tokyo station and airport bus right at the entrance to the hotel.
Contras: I wish there could be more hanging hooks for towels/clothes in the bathroom. Having only one is not as functional for two people in the room.
Prós: The location can't be beat! It is right by the JR line and makes it easy for navigating the city and having a base to get back to before going out and exploring more! The staff was extremely nice and attentive and spoke relative good English.
Contras: It was a bit dusty in certain places, also the bed was very hard.
Prós: Simples. Limpo. Muito bom acesso a estação JR. Ligação WIFI rápido.
Prós: Hotel muito limpo e aconchegante, localização conveniente
Prós: Superb facilities and attentive staff. Prime location for visiting Kyoto. Much appreciated the shuttle bus.
Prós: Gor the courtyard room as requested
Contras: Staff complained that i booked with kayak ..no starpoints or status night or no late checkout or no other benefits. This unlike my gold status and the fact that i stayed there 4 times over the last year....
Contras: Charge for pool use.
Prós: Comodidades soberbas e funcionários atenciosos. Localização privilegiada para visitar Kyoto. Muito apreciado o autocarro.
Prós: Good location near the central Kyoto St. The room was comfortable and clean.
Contras: They asigned us in smoking floor, and the smoking smells was terrible. We asked for a change and they assigned a room two doors beside. Next day they changed yo a better room in other floor.
Prós: The first day, they give us a room in the 5 floor, wich is for smoking people. Wen we make a complain, were change for other room in the same floor. Fortuny the nex day we change to the 8 flor, no smoking and with a beautiful japan is stile
Prós: The staff, cleanliness, location to the train station.
Contras: Nothing noted
Prós: Fantastic hotel located within an easy 10min walk of Kyoto station. Very foreigner friendly with good dinning options. Ideal hotel for tourists.
Contras: Our toddler was dissapointed that he couldnt go swimming, as the minimum age is 3 years. However this is an understandable safety concern. Just keep it in mind if you have a little one that enjoys the water.
Prós: A equipe, limpeza, localização da estação de trem.
Contras: Nada indicada
