Prós: We love this place! We came back for a second time because we enjoyed it so much when we were there on our honeymoon. It has such a relaxing stress free vibe. The staff is always very friendly and personable. This is a great place to come if you want an escape from life for a while.
Contras: Air conditioning would be nice when the humidity becomes unbearable, but we understand it would take away from the Caribbean vibe that makes this place so special.

Prós: The location was just right, on the beach but also just on the south edge of town so it was quiet at night. It's a great starting point for a bike ride down to Punta Uva and the other great beaches. Mariam was very friendly and actually runs down the stairs to meet you when you ring the bell. I stayed there twice during my time in Puerto Viejo. The lady who cleaned my room and the common kitchen area was very nice and used her "magic" to help me light the stove ;-)
Contras: A little construction noise but that is temporary and can't be helped.
The hotel as a whole is a gem. I couldn't have felt better about deciding to stay at Cariblue. Really did make a beautiful area look that much more beautiful. The free breakfast each morning was awesome and made up for the expensive restaurant menu. Call it even with that. All in all i would recommend anyone and everyone to go here besides the loud obnoxious spring break partying type. Its fine to be there and have a good time, but this resort is more set up for the romantic and the tranquile living type. Exactly what my wife and i wanted.
Prós: It was an extremely nice hotel with a beautiful garden area surrounding the pool. All units seemed to have a great deal of privace and each set of units felt as if secluded from the rest. Gated security 24/7 gave you a sense of their focus to safety.
Contras: The internet went down for the last 2 days of our stay. it happens, but just wish they could have gotten it up and running again since we use the internet on our phones quite a bit. Other than that this place is a gem.
Prós: The hostel looked nice, well decorated, room was reasonably comfortable and the breakfast at the restaurant was expensive but good. Easy to walk into town and across the road was Playa Negra, a black sand beach.
Contras: They have frequent power outages which means there's no lights, running water, or food available in the restaurant. The outage lasted for hours on our second night. During the rainy season it also smells terrible around the hostel and we found cockroaches in our room. Only cold water in the shower.
The receptionists were all friendly, however they knew almost nothing about the area! When we asked about renting bikes, surf lessons, restaurants etc they only knew what was next door and didn't have any idea of what was in the town (which was a 5 minute walk away). The restaurant was very expensive, and we had a mediocre at best dinner there. We were two college students staying there and everyone else seemed to be part of large tour groups, so we felt out of place and in the way. Would not recommend a stay here, as there are many places on the other side of town which are closer to stuff you want to see, and are geared towards smaller groups.
