Prós: Great location with easy walk to Univeristy and shops andd restaurants downtown. We got 2 bedrooms with a separate living/kitchenette area
for a reasonable price. Guest laundry (like many places in NZ) available and the hostess moved our clothes to the dryer for us.
The hotel is small (8 cottages), run by a husband/wife team who keep the rooms and the grounds clean and inviting. Not only do the owners show pride in their motel, they also show pride in their village by providing us with lots of helpful information about what to do, where to eat, etc. We were very pleased with our experience.
Prós: The room was very clean and slowed a genuine pride in ownership on the part of the owners, both of whom were very helpful in making our stay enjoyable.
I'm glad we stayed on the Peninsula, rather in Dunedin. Beautiful area - just be sure to top up your car in the city if you plan on driving around the peninsula. Great areas to walk around - drive to go see the blue penguins after dark.
Prós: Very large space - full bathroom, two separate bedrooms, well-equiped kitchen, portable heaters. The owner was very helpful with recommending sites to see for our limited stay on Otago Peninsula.
Prós: Close to Botanical Gardens, bright and quiet.
Contras: Dated plumbing. Unable to close curtains on door for privacy when locking up from outside.
Prós: It was so lovely and quiet, 'folksie', and clean
Contras: The bed and pillows were 'tired'.
Prós: Staff were very hospitable and eager to help with information.
Contras: Honestly, the bathroom and kitchen need an upgrade.
Prós: We arrived late at night, motellier rang asking about arrival time and that they had left heaters on in unit and to let ourselves in; very cosey on arrival and we appreciated the personal touch. Unit impeccably clean with comfortable beds.
Prós: We stayed in a lodge room and had dinner at the Castle. We enjoyed our stay. The grounds were beautiful, breakfast great and staff very helpful. The internet is quick and the room well equipped with a great view of the harbor. We had stayed here years ago when the stables were the only accomodations and was nice also. We did see the Camp Estates from the road ,but did not see what the rooms looked like. It is down the road so you would need to drive to the Castle as it is too far to walk.
Contras: The dinner was for 26 people so it was held in the piano room not the dining room. It was better when it was a smaller group years ago and in the dining room. Now that there are more lodging rooms the dinners are larger. This is because if you stay here you have the opportunity to dine in the Castle It did seem that they needed more help serving as tea and coffee was not served until more than half the guests had left. Also the history of the house and family was not done until most people had left. the staff mentioned that they were working three rooms at once.
