The helpfulness of the staff during our brief stay and there willingness to go out of there way to help us.
We were expecting a family room but ended up with a 4 bedroomed house which was perfect for our family House wasn't ready on time. House was a little "tatty"
Location and friendliness of staff
Central location near all good restaurants and pubs and harbour - very impressed with standard of accomodation and ammenaties offered really enjoyed the private swimming pool and sauna great fun No shower, no hairdryer, plug sockets a long way from mirrors very important for getting ready to go out with friends ans family !
Staff helpful and friendly rooms very clean Did feel it was a little mean not letting customers who had paid for bed & breakfast have a cereal and orange juice if they so wished without paying extra. We were not bothered but did hear other people complain to each other about it.
The apartment was clean and large Very unchild proof, our todler was pulling wires, emptying kitchen cupboards and banging her head on the glass coffee table which had a big chip in the corner!. Very uncomfortable beds, chairs and sofa'S. You have to book the swimming pool and we weren't told this until we came to go swimming and then had to go the following day. Breakfast was very average and you had either a choice of a hot or cold drink and everywhere else offers both. Continental breakfast was past its best fruit, stale croissants, happy shopper yoghurt and cereal - nothing great at all! We were thoroughly disappointed with everything. Although the staff were friendly and the apartment was clean
Generally excellent. Appts spacious and excellent facilities. Pool out of order. This was a big factor in booking as we were keen to use. Could do with a shower, even if its just over the bath.
Good location, pleasant staff son loved the scaletrix track available to hire
Centrally located, close to amenities, Quiet area Could have been cleaner, had to request tea towels at breakfast the next day, could do with higher tog duvets
The fact it was a totally NO SMOKING hotel was great. And it was well situated and very clean, all the staff we met were very friendly, we shall definately be going back. Could have done with more parking for guest`s but not a real problem.
the room was large enough to spread out with comfortable chairs. Access to Sky tv was good and Tea and coffee facilities were appreciated
Very clean and comfortable accomodation. Very good, well prepared food for breakfast. Too much to eat.
We liked that it was 'non smoking' N/A
The cleanliness and the freshly cooked breakfast.
The way we were left alone for our stay, knowing that the staff were available if required, it was great.
the room was fab and the view breath taking liked everything
firendly staff Shower poor. No breakfast after 9.00am
A bed/breakfast type hotel. Accomodation ok. Far enough from the centre of Whitby to have a quiet break. 10 min walk to harbour.
Just the right distance from town, comfortable, clean, quiet and the breakfast was perfectly cooked. The staff came over as rather cold and unfriendly. We've stayed in a three star round the corner from here previously but couldn't get in as it was fully booked [speaks volumes], that is the one we would choose to return to.
View of sea to the front and view of cricket match from the room. Loved the room and bathroom decor Bit further out of the town than I'd imagined.
Pleasant staff, homely feel, comfortable and situation to the beach and town. There was nothing to dislike
The position, right on the cliffs was great. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and being able to bring our dog was very important to us. Room a little small
The warm welcome on arrivel and the freindliness of evrybody . the cleanliness and the meals were delicious . overall it was an excellent weekend nothing at all
clean comfortable excellent food Slight aged smell downstairs
Room was nice Room outlooked onto cricket field ,we understood it would have sea view.no shelve in bathroom to put toiletries on ,and bin was to small .
Comfortable and quiet room looked and felt as it if had been recently upgraded. Very clean with very nice bathroom and good quality towels. Quiet situation but within easy walk of town centre. Only a very small point. We asked for a sea view if possible but our room only had a side view which according to the hotel's price list should have been cheaper than what we paid. It didn't seem worth quibbling at the time as everything else was very good and we were only staying one night.
Staff very good and Hotel Situation Very small room but ok for one night
The staff were friendly, the location was good, parking was available the bed wasn't comfortable, the full English breakfast was not very big
The friendliness of the staff The location of the hotel is at the top af a quite substancial hill heading out from the town centre
Privacy and comfort, good continental breakfast provided to room.
It pays to check reviews before booking and the reviews of Elford House were spot on. Expect a clean fresh room and a sparkling ensuite. The views of Whitby Abbey are a bonus. This B&B is handy to touring routes in and out of Whitby. Car parking on site is another big plus so you can leave your car and walk everywhere in Whitby (within minutes). Good location for visiting the North Yorkshire Moors and the steam railway. Good location for Staithes, Goathland, even Scarborough. Take your hiking boots!
The breakfast was a mini-feast! The staff were friendly and helpful, the room and facilities all very clean and tidy - would highly recommend. The walk up the hill from the centre of town!
Clean and friendly. Parking not enough for number of rooms. Bathroom very small for size of room. Continental breakfast ok. Rather expensive for just room and continental breakfast.
Easy walk to town The Bed and the floors. The bed was very uncomfortable and the floors, while clean, were noisy. Fortunatel there was no one upstairs otherwise it would have been very noisy
The room was lovely and big, and it was spotlessly clean. It was a good base for experiencing Whitby. The breakfast was very very tasty and had an added bonus of being delivered to our room. The bed was a small double despite the size of the room. The exposed floor boards looked lovely but meant we were constantly disturbed by the noise of people talking in other rooms and their TV's. Our TV was also very small for the size of the room, only a problem if you wanted a night in.
Easy to find Wierd breakfast system, I much prefer to be asked what I would like rather than it being forced upon me. were are healthy eaters, full fat milk and tinned fruit isnt exactly what we were was expecting Shower/ensuite was tiny for the size of the room not a 4 star rating
The breakfast brought to the room is a lovely idea. Very beautifully decorated rooms too. The small double room is small! It was the only one free when we booked, but I'd say it's really only suitable for one person. No wardrobe etc etc Saying that, the staff did offer to move us to a bigger one on the last night, and all the rooms are clean and nicely presented.
Nothing. Asked for a room with a view, put in the attic.Had to climb on the bed to see the view through a small window. No carpet, just a rug and lino, woodchip wallpaper very bland.Bathroom door would not close.Bathroom to small. No freeview or wifi, needed a telescope to watch T.V. No day room, breakfast rubbish Value for money nil.
Excellent Hotel in all aspects, great standard of cleanliness, great staff, good food, good position. None I can think of!
The attention to detail throughout the hotel. No
the service the price in the bar
visited local villages walked no
Friendly, good food. very good staff None
very friendly, excellent breakfast
The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Excellent choice for the breakfast menu. Good location. Decor tired and old fashioned, only 6TV channels available - why no freeview? No WiFi facilities.
Excellent hotel. Very clean. Food fantastic. None
The room was quiet which we wanted. The breakfast was good. The beds were comfortable. The room was very clean. To have to carry up and down a heavy luggage to the second floor as there was no lift.
Tidy and clean. Staff were characters! Quite old fashioned but in a good way! No Wi Fi No Sky TV Sport Showers need updating
Easy to book on-line. Friendly staff. Bright, clean, spacious room & en- suite. Good location. Car Park was almost full on return from town in evening
We enjoyed the fact that it was very clean, comfortable and there was everything to make our stay very enjoyable. Also with it being away from the centre of Whitby it was very quiet with lovely views over the goft course and bay and we shall certainly consider a return visit.
Customer service excellent as was the food and the comfort and cleanliness of the rooms
the friendlyness of the owners and staff no i have to say everything was 1st class
the wonderful breakfasts !!! n/a
Breakfast was excellent - wife enjoyed salmon alternative. Bedroom window cracked and didn't fully close (November). Restaurant mentioned on sign outside but not active, but not offered in literature.
Friendly welcome helpful staff nice village location, but still close to Whitry
The hotel was better kept than any other 400 year old place I have ever stayed before. Despite the bitter cold and snow outside and the fact this is a grade 2 listed building with single glazing, the bedrooms were warm and the beds very comfortable. The service and full English breakfast could only be described as excellent. A very nice stay we will be back!!
lovely old building. very comfortable. Contrary to other reviews we had no problem with the car park. It has 10 spaces for a ten roomed hotel. It may get tight if people have more than 1 car I suppose. only the local pub for evening meal if you didn't want to drive, and the pub's no food on Mondays.
Not much Quality of breakfast. Cheap brands of products used, food not very hot, instant coffee rather than fresh coffee used - a total disaster.
freindly staff, very helpfull, good breakfast all in all great stay the double bed seemed very small, the shower head was broken.
Good breakfast Room was very run down , no heating, unable to take a shower.
While not located in Whitby itself it had a pleasant walk via paddocks and bushland into Whitby, plus there was a regular bus service running till late. But the friendliness, ease and willingness to help of the family owners was great. The breakfasts were a bit too generous, and just plain good. And, it was very reasonably priced. It was a great hotel, so I have nothing to add in this area
Great helpful staff and lovely breakfast. Perfect central location for exploring Whitby town.
the owners were very pleasant and chatty, there was a vegetarian breakfast option, local information was provided there was no heating in the shower room, and water pressure meant the shower was either too cold or scalding hot. Duvets were warm, but not very comfortable - too thick and heavy. Heating wasn't switched on until 6pm, which is a bit late when you come in from a days walking, and it was fairly cold in the room.
Room was clean.owners were friendly.there was a good choice for breakfast and there was street parking opposite The stairs where quite steep up to the room. All hotels in Whitby are like that
the owners were very polite and friendly. all questions were answered with knowledge. breakfasts were the best at b and b we've ever had. no
friendliness of staff.food v good. room cold.....also cramped
This is a very friendly establishment, ideally situated close to the beach at Whitby. The breakfasts are excellent, and the room I stayed in was a good size.
Very handy for beach and shops. We went for the Whitby Goth weekend and found it very central for everything. The owners are really friendly and welcoming and there are a few little extra touches to make your stay comfortable.
Pleasant room, good breakfast, within walking distance of town centre. Parking limited during very busy weekends.
Nice welcoming owners None
Beautifully clean enviromentally aware hotel with a lovely breakfast and friendly people Needed to ask for refresh
Friendly staff and a beautiful setting, the room was very clean and well equipted and also nicely decorated. The evening menu was a little limited.
I thought the entire staff was excellent. They were very accomodating in our change of plans. The location was excellent.
Can't fault it, very clean throughout, welcoming, friendly and helpful staff.Nice rural location. Easily accessible to main road to the north, yet only a few minutes drive south to the beautiful Yorkshire Moors. A very relaxing stay.
A friendly, clean and welcomming experience, you can relax and enjoy the good beers and food or be more adventurous in the surrounding countryside,a good base for touring.
Location,ambience,breakfast. parking a little awkward
Friendly, helpful staff, good menu with good quality of food and service.
boutique style newly decorated room. food
the room we had at the duke of wellington was clean and tidy and pleasantly decorated, likewise the bathroom the bar menu was not as extensive as expected, but it was november and it may have been slimmed down , being out of season but apart from that it was ok
Location and closeness to the Yorkshire Moors, and general comfort of the room Lack of car parking space, and the menu could have contained more options
Very clean accommodation with good quality bedding, towels etc. Good breakfast and evening meals at reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again. En suite room a little on the small side.
The owners are a very friendly couple running this hotel. Very welcoming and the tea and ginger cake were delightful and very welcome!! Comfortable bed, reasonable shower.Provided Marmite when asked!! Lovely range of cereals, nuts, seeds and fresh fruit for breakfast. Not really a bad point but I'd lose the feathered lampshades!!
Deborah & Martin were so welcoming and helpful. They were very friendly people and couldn't do enough for you. When we arrived we were met with a cup of tea and home made ginger cake. The rooms were well equipped - especially the disabled room - and the breakfast was more than you needed. No
Friendliness and helpfulness of proprietors. They make you feel at home. Excellent breakfast. Clean and comfortable room and facilities. Location. Availability of a lift to higher floors. There was nothing about this hotel I did not like. I noticed some reviews commented on lack of parking. This was not an issue for us as we travelled by train and it is an easy walk from the station.
Lovely room, great breakfast, good location and super friendly hosts. The fact that payment was not taken by the website despite having to enter full card details was not made clear enough.
The hosts were welcoming, friendly and fun. the breakfast was very good with a good selection of fresh fruit, jams and marmalade. most importantly it was clean .
We loved the hotel, it was located near to the town, but the problem of parking nearly put us off. Luckily we did stay and would do so again in the future. The hotel was excellent and very clean and friendly. Lack of parking.
Room 1 was large with a good view and a park across the street. Very quiet at night for a semi-main road. The owners were fantastic and we felt we entered as guest and left as friends. Breakfast was great and because of the banter between owners and guest it broke the ice and got everyone talking! It was a nice change not to feel rushed. A VERY minor problem was my curling iron cord was not long enough to let me stand in front of the mirror to see to fix my hair which was my problem and not theirs.
Debroah and Martin were very nice people. breakfast was lovely, room lovely location great had a lovely weekend thankyou
Lovely guest house very homely None
The breakfasts were excellent very friendly management spotlessly clean and fairly priced. Good ground floor room for an elderly couple or someone with restricted movement.
Very hospitable, weekend parking available, good location and a filling, well cooked breakfast. Front of house lower room has noticeable noise from traffic but to be expected considering position of the room and in a house with such original features. However, would book and use again.
A very warm and friendly b&B. I would definitely go back again. The booking site did not make it clear that full payment would not be taken from my credit card. This led to some confusion and embarrassment when checking out because we almost left without paying! Please, please make sure this is crystal clear on your website.
very friendly and breakfasts were excellent difficult to park during the week
Very friendly .. would stay here again for sure! Loved the breakfast
The freindly, helpfull owner. Parking is a problem and the available space, first come first served, is in a rather dirty back alley.
Very warm welcome, excellent advice about Whitby. Very good position in town, every effort made to help with parking. Very good choice and quality of breakfast. Spacious room with nice view over the park and a sitting area. Our only surprise was a lack of a towel rail in the very nicely fitted en-suite shower room.
Friendly, helpful staff. Great location. Wonderful breakfast
Very friendly, great location, very tidy, and crackin' breakfast! Ceiling a but low for me (I'm 6' 2") but I adapted.
The room size and the freshly cooked breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Close to the centre of Whitby. The bathroom was a bit small but adequate.
The Europa Guesthouse is ideally situated. Just a stroll away from some spectacular views and very close to the shops and the front of Whitby. The cooked breakfast was good. There was a vegetarian option on request. The proprietors were friendly. The room had tea/coffee making facilities, Tv and en suite bathroom with shower. Towels and bedding were clean and the bed was comfortable.
Full English Breakfast perfect eggs wonderful whitby kippers on request. Unobtrusive but wonderful warm welcoming hosts. One had the feeling that nothing would be too much trouble if you asked. Only the weather but hey that's not their fault.
The hotel owners were very friendly and relaxed, so the atmosphere in the place was very agreeable. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice. Food very well presented and cooked; excellent coffee (which is a must after a hard night on the wine in Whitby).
The owners were very friendly and helpful
Our room was small but very clean and comfotable,it was a perfect location and the owners were very friendly and welcoming. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. parking was sometimes difficult.
Nice couple. Have to like the sound of seagulls (but I think that does apply to all places in Whitby).
The staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was excellent, just the ticket to set you up for the day. We will definitely be staying at the Europa again.
Location to town centre
the host were fantastic, clean, friendly, excellent breakfast, not too close to the centre all was perfect
The owners were friendly and very helpful. The rooms were cheery and bright. Excellent breakfast with a treat of Ukrainian muffins. No complaints
Very nice owners, wonderful breakfast with homemade "Russian" toast a lovely extra. Excellent room with very nice fittings. A little basket on coffee table filled with goodies to eat with your cup of tea. We would stay here again.
the lovely room liked everything
Really friendly host and well kept facilities. Flexible times for breakfast. Limited payment methods and shared bathroom.
The landlady did everything she could to make our stay pleasant, she even did some laundry for us
Wendy, the landlady was very friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. The en-suite room was very comfortable and nicely decorated with a fully functioning bathroom..ie the shower actually worked and was hot! Would definitely stay again and recomend to friends. The only thing we did not like and it was nothing to do with the hotel itself was that you had to tackle the very steep hill, not so much down to the city centre but back up!!! Not really suitable for the elderly or infirm without transport.
A very pleasent Bed & Breakfast facility with a warm welcome and very clean rooms and excellent breakfast
How clean everthing was, and Wendy cooked a good breakfast, if we return to Whitby, we would try to stop here.
Really friendly owner and the standard of cleanliness It was described as a small double and it was quite little so cant really complain but this could be overlooked because of the standard of cleanliness and lovely owner
It was very relaxed, comfortable and warm. Wendy, the landlady, was very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. There was nothing we disliked.
Clean and nicely decorated room. Good location for Whitby. Shower was in the bedroom.
It was clean and very friendly. lovely staff could not do enough
The room was cmfortable and got all th essetial facilities. The breakfast was excellant and the service was exemplary. Good private parking None
Beutiful location, if a bit out of the way. Very peaceful, not a great choice of food for me as I dont eat meat. We only ate 1 night at hotel but food was lovely. Bed was a bit uncomfortable for us.
A lovely historical building with a touch of old fashioned luxury. A good range of choice for breakfast served by a friendly and cheerful head waitress to start the day well. A good location for exploring moors and coast. Room right up in the attic..no lift available to transport the luggage. Quite expensive for the facilties available yet the upkeep of such a baeutiful house probably warrants the need to charge the rate!
Beautiful building and setting .... great sea views
Beautiful surrounding area, comfortable and peaceful.
The whole experience was just so relaxful and the setting was amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times and the breakfast meal was very good indeed
The surrounding countryside and the look of the hotel No
very quiet excellent location, rooms very good, food super
Lovely location & grounds. Bedroom was large & comfortable. Both breakfast & dinner were excellent. More like a four star hotel. n/a
Excellent in every way. None.
The rrom was of high standard, very clean and new within an old building. The room was very warm and couldnt turn down the heating ! i dinot enjoy my meal but was not charged because of this.
