Prós: This boutique hotel has so much charm. It was perfectly located for our many day exploration of SF. I also found it to be located in a hip area, being around the corner from the, reservations only, craft cocktail lounge Bourbon & Branch, and the best Thai restaurant (according to expats) in the city, Million Thai.
I shopped many (endlessly beige and corporate) luxury hotels in the area, but was won over by this luxury hotel with personality. The room was very clean and quiet. We found the duvet and bed to be very comfortable. The bathroom was very modern with a wonderfully relaxing shower. The reported remodeling was complete when I visited and I found that the photos were an accurate portrayal of the rooms.
I would not hesitate to book this hotel again, and would enthusiastically endorse it to friends and family.
Prós: The yellow "pineapple" touches all around the hotel were adorable!! we stayed in the queen starlet room which was small but you'd hardly notice - it was laid out very well. Bathroom is very modern! Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.
Contras: Our airconditioner didn't work the first night. The front desk offered to move us to a new room but we declined, hoping the window would provide some cool air. The next day our AC was fixed while we were out and we didn't have further problems. Also wish the the bed had a top sheet in addition to the fitted sheet - Sometimes the duvet was too warm.
Prós: Great yellow accents. Great staff. Great breakfast food.
Contras: Wish there were more food options and eating time.
Prós: room overall was very small, but looked very nice and clean. not much of a view in downtown San Francisco... we were staring right into someone else's hotel room in the adjacent building. solid room, great customer service.
Contras: area underneath toilet lid seat was filthy
Prós: Everything was very nice and the staff was very friendly. I also liked check out time was 12PM without having to ask for a late check out.
Prós: Location, pineapple scent
Contras: A ton of little creaky, old, uncomfortable things about this hotel add up to a tough place to sleep. This includes hard pillows, creaky pipes, random irregular sounds from the walls, a heat-happy thermostat, and so on
Prós: Service was great. They were very helpful.
Contras: Quarto com vista para o eixo
Prós: Ótimos detalhes amarelos. Excelente equipe. Ótimo café da manhã.
Contras: Gostaria que houvesse mais opções de comida e mais horários para comer.
Prós: Very friendly staff, great service. The access to Equinox is fabulous! Prime, prime location--the best!!
Contras: In-room dining is awful. I had breakfast twice, and was severely disappointed at the outrageous price for the poor, poor quality of every aspect of the food--coffee is burnt and thick like mud, toast burnt, side vegetables unbelievably expensive with NO quality. The fresh orange juice is good. And that's it.
Otherwise, the hotel is just wonderful.
Prós: Amazing service and experience! We we're there for our honeymoon and loved every moment. The staff went out of there way to help us.
Prós: Nice rooms. Polite staff. Nice bathrooms. Everything worked without an issue.
Contras: At Reservation, called the 800 number. I was told they only had two suites available. No rooms. Two minutes later, I went on Kayak and booked two rooms with no issue.
Service was in no way exceptional. It was a little irritating that bell desk couldn't get cab.
Food/bar is terrible
Surcharge for internet access is ludicrous
Contras: I could hear everything from my room. Housekeeping, doors slamming, neighbors... I also think free wifi at hotels should be standard at this point - as it is at most hotels.
Prós: Hotel employees treat you like royalty.
Beautiful details all over the hotel. Classic history all over! Every president over the past 120 years has stayed at the hotel!
First Fairmont Hotel in the world, sets the standard for all Fairmont hotels!
Contras: VERY expensive parking. The hotel contracts with a parking service and valet is the only option. Prepare to spend over $70 a night to park at the hotel, but this is the only option unless you want to walk miles and miles.
Prós: Location and setting
Contras: Service was awful - restaurant had several issues.
Prós: The staff, rooms, comfy not over the top stuffy
Prós: Beautiful hotel, great service. Staff very helpful, especially Scott at front desk
Prós: Comfortable beds. Great location. Nice staff. Beautiful decor.
Contras: Poor soundproofing- we could hear everything next door. $65 parking and $14 wifi. "Courtyard view" misrepresents the huge noisy cooling type towers. Breakfast was 1 1/2 hour late. Dinner in the restaurant was loud and only mediocre.
Prós: I originally was trying to book this hotel via the QANTAS website however they had problems, so I rang the hotel direct and they were most helpful. Not only did they book me in, but they beat the original price and converted it for me to $AUD for my small brain.
I drove to SFO from LAX - on arrival bell hop service was excellent, didn't miss any bags or jackets that were in my car.
Stayed in the main building - Fairmont Queen room
Clean and tidy
Food selection and room service
Tonga room is a must see
Location very central to anywhere you'd like to be in SFO
Contras: The main building although grand, is a little dated. The refurbished rooms are good, but the particular room I was in the door didn't fully open because the wall gets in the way, so for room service the trolley couldn't be wheeled in, food had to be carried in from the door, and there wasn't really any table to put the food on, only the writing desk or the fold out mini bar.
I had to call for slippers
Contras: Parking at $65 a nite is outrageous There were no blankets in the room so I asked for some they came an hour later. I had to call 3 times to get service. Wifi was $14 a day not free. Coffee in the room was poor. U would think they could provide quality coffee. Paper was delivered to some rooms but not ours
Prós: The view is amazing in the linens were very comfortable
Contras: Valet parking is a bit steep in price
Prós: Room was large & I only had a queen. Bed, pillows & sheets all very good. Hotel is dated but some would call that charming.
Contras: My robe had stains on it.
Prós: Very luxurious and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the management. When things went wrong, they were accommodating to benefit me for the inconveniences.
Contras: Upon checking in, they didn't have our room available until the next day. Not sure how that even happens, but after talking to the manager, he miraculously was able to get our room. I had an allergic reaction to the laundry detergent they use on the bed sheets and my eyes swelled up. I was told that if you have allergies, you need to call in advance to make sure they wash the bedding with hyper-allergenic detergent (they normally use Dawn). For the inconveniences, they did comp me my room service.
Prós: Reputation was indeed lived up to ...better than I expected
Prós: The room was smaller than what I'm used to, but very comfortable. The bed was plush, with high-quality bedding. Good shower and toiletries, fast elevators, comfortable lobby
Contras: The walls are quite thin, and because the toilets are vacuum toilets, they are louder than average toilets, and you can hear everyone flushing. The bathroom door is also a stylish (but not noise-blocking) glass barn door, so if you are sharing the room with someone, they will hear everything that is happening in the bathroom. There is a $25 fee to use the gym and pool, which I was not aware of when I booked the room.
Prós: I was very happy with the hotel, location in the city, the service & the staff.
Contras: I couldn't stay longer.
Contras: fees for everything including gym and even moving anything in the mini bar. grout in shower old and stained, toilet off center and wiggled.
Contras: They charge you extra for the health club, which is not that great - I found that to be offensive!
Prós: I found the staff very friendly and accommodating. I would easily recommend the hotel to others.
Prós: The bathroom was nice with shower and tub. The indoor pool and Hot Tub were great for relaxing after visiting the sites. There was $25 per room charge for use of the pool/hot tub but this was small price to pay for this feature.
Contras: Aggressive panhandlers all over the city.
Contras: Fees for Internet and gym. Additional fees for more than two adults.
Prós: The room was quite nice. The staff was very curteous and helpful. The location is convienent. The price was reasonable.
Contras: The pool was only available as part of the health club which annoyed me.
Prós: Beautiful interior design
Contras: Expensive vehicle stay rate. Small room
Prós: Excellent location
Good pillows, bed & linens
Contras: I had a queen room, very small
No remote control for the TV
Long, long checkin/check out process.
Gym in not complimentary
Prós: Great stay at the Hotel Nikko, definitely pay $25 for access to the pool and spa.
Prós: Good hotel, old but well maintained, very considerate staff.
Contras: There is no elevator and you have to climb 2 flights of stairs just to get from the street to the lobby -- not easy if you have heavy luggage. I got there around 8 in the evening and there was no one who could help with the luggage. The ads for this place should more clearly indicate these limitations.
Prós: Perfect place to stay for all the important sights
Trolley stops in front and goes right down to
Fisherman's Wharf for great food and
Terrific views, Lori's Diner is a few doors
away with great food, Walgreens on the
Prós: Awesome location, close to everything with the tram stop right outside and shopping only minutes away.
Contras: Rooms were dated and they get hot, no aircon either
Prós: It was a very nice family hotel with an interesting history. Well located right off Union Square. The hotel staff were all very nice. Though we didn't take advantage of them, the bar and restaurant both seemed nice.
Contras: The weather was cool and the hotel had the boiler running. Our room must have been 80 degrees and no way to shut the heat off. We were on the top floor and the hotel staff offered to move us to a lower (cooler) room. The second floor room was just as warm. The rooms really need local control of temperature.
Prós: Staff very nice and professional
Contras: Rooms are just too small especially for price.
Prós: Nice historic hotel in a great location. Friendly and informative staff. Room was small but we got one of the rooms on the top floor and the ceiling was about 15 feet high. It made the room seem much larger. There is no A/C in the room but it was comfortable with the ceiling fan and the window open. I liked hearing the sounds of the city in the evening. The city "noise" did quiet down during the night and had no problems sleeping.
This hotel was recommended to me by my boss. He stays there every year for a reunion with college friends. I have not problem passing on the recommendation.
Prós: Bedroom was clean, furniture appeared recent. Location was reasonably convenient.
Contras: Room was claustrophobic - barely room to walk around bed. Paint was fresh, but clearly covering 100 years of obvious wear. Musty smell. No air conditioning - couldn't get room quite cool/dry enough to be comfortable. Bathroom was dingy, marked up and had seen better days, and it was hard to squeeze into toilet between sink and wall, even then, wedged in by shoulder-level toilet paper dispenser. Plumbing noises from adjacent units were loud. Weirdly shaped closet with mismatched hangars that were falling apart.
Prós: The staff was great. They were very friendly and helpful. The location was also fantastic and the noon check out gave us a little additional time to explore the city without worrying about our bags. I would definitely recommend.
Prós: Last minute booking. Great price! Pretty extraordinary. Prime location!
Prós: Reasonably priced, friendly and accommodating staff, coffee/tea available 24/7. Great wifi, mini fridge in room. Great water pressure. They updated all the right things.
Contras: Coffee maker/microwave in room would have been an improvement, but not a sticking point. The service at Luques can be slow, but the food is good.
Prós: Great location, good price, comfortable, professional, courteous staff.
We had a room on the top floor, which was clean and quiet, with a ceiling fan rather than AC. Despite typically being a light sleeper, and expecting issues with street noise, I slept better there than I have anywhere in years, not really sure why (could have been the 12+ miles walking each day in wonderful San Francisco).
The hotel is in Union Square, with its incredible shopping and conference centers. Chinatown is about .5 miles away (and a very steep hill), and Fisherman's Wharf about 1.5 miles; a fun walk if you're up for it (but Uber is fast an inexpensive, especially the pool option).
If you're looking for a plush, modern American experience, this isn't it. If you're looking for an affordable, comfortable, centralized location to explore SF, or attend a business conference, this is a great choice.
Contras: Rooms are small, no air-conditioning (though not really needed) and there was no real work surface for a notebook. Not a place to get work done. Bathroom was dated, but functional.
There's no fitness center in the hotel but you get free use of a health club around the corner with lots of good gear and yoga classes, which were great. There's no coffee in the room, but there's a 24 hour a day brew available in the lobby with cookies I found impossible to resist. Wi-fi is free and fast.
Prós: Everything was clean and comfortable. The staff was kind and attentive. Location was perfect. Concierge was helpful. Absolutely would stay here again when visiting San Francisco.
Contras: Breakfast wasn't included, but actually was delicious in the cafe downstairs.
Prós: Great value! Great coffee/tea/water and they extended our checkout by 2 hours to accommodate our plans. Very nice. And BOGO cocktails for a night!
Contras: Room is small but doable (without children).
Prós: The service the beds the comfort the location were superior
Contras: It would be good to have abilities to use a microwave and a small refrigerator for quick items

Prós: We had a lovely weekend at Jackson Court. The location was perfect for walking to all of our destinations, and was a stone's throw from some amazing restaurants and fun bars, but at the end of the night it was great to come back to a quiet location. We slept with the windows open both nights, and my boyfriend wasn't bothered at all. I sleep like the dead, but he could hear a whisper from 3 blocks away and be up for an hour.
Breakfast was simple, but enough, and we really enjoyed meeting some of the other travellers that way. I can't say we took advantage of the afternoon tea, but it was a nice offering.
All in all, our stay was lovely. I imagine we will try and spend our future San Francisco stays at Jackson Court.
Contras: While we didn't take a car, I can see what other reviewers were talking about when it comes to parking. This neighborhood is extremely residential, and that could present a problem for some.
We also happen to love walking, and were willing to hoof it to most of our destinations, but if you are not a walker, public transportation is a bit tricky. Whenever we got tired of walking, though, uber or lyft were always readily available and pretty inexpensive
Prós: The location was great and my room was quiet.
Contras: There was a bit of mildew odor in the bathroom. If not for that I would have given an excellent rating, instead of good, for my stay.
Prós: Close to everything in Union Square, clean and nice-looking inside.
Contras: ...but that translates to a little over $300 a night, which isn't really worth it. Avoid it during the conventions in town.
Prós: Good arrival and wait staff were both friendly and efficient. The door man was great and the team inside were extremely helpful. I have stayed in other SF hotels in the past and Hotel Zelos is a nice addition to the city. City hotel rooms can sometimes be small but the rooms at Zelos are very spacious!
I also would like to say thank you for an overall smooth and fun experience! From booking on line with Kayak to speaking directly with the hotel, to checking in & out, everyone was super friendly and consistently would go out of their way to be helpful.
Contras: Mixed message on parking After speaking with associates on two separate occasions.
Then the confusion in the garage, mind you I thought I lost my ticket to return however I unpacked it when I arrived back home this evening. There was a problem between the hand written sign in log from the valet and the printed report from the front desk and the hotel's portion of valet claim check system also did not work. I retrieved my vehicle because I brought the only two matching keys and I have matching handmade key chains attached.
Breakfast table with two nice chairs rather than a rolling office chair. That was weird. But it was also SF PRIDE weekend so who cares!
Prós: Front desk personnel and bell service were exceptionally helpful.
Rooms were nicely appointed - largest TV I've ever had in a hotel room.
Central location right at Powell St. BART Station allowed me to get there quickly from Oakland Airport.
Prós: The staff was very friendly. The driver to the airport (George in the Towncar) was very courteous.
Contras: Need a coffee maker in room. Not a deal breaker though of course.
Prós: Room was great. But we were placed next to the ice machine....the wall there sounded paper thin throughout the night as guest needed ice.
Contras: Being stuck next to an ice machine at 2 am
Contras: Windows face directly into office building just 10ft away. People in the office can see directly into your room
Prós: Had a great time friendly staff great restaurant
Contras: That nobody answered the phone at the restaurant for me to make a reservation fri night
Prós: The location of the hotel was excellent. There were many nice dining, shopping and entertainment options very close by. It is also very close to a BART station so getting there from the airport is very easy. San Francisco is a surprisingly easy city to drive in as well, though parking is very expensive.
Contras: Though the bed was very comfortable, it was a bit squeaky. Also, being on Market street means that there is a bit of noise but it's not excessive.
Prós: The Palomar is in a great location, the staff is very friendly, and the rooms are nicely decorated. Beds are OK. Restaurant (Bad Habit?) onsite had a nice quality breakfast which was pretty reasonable.
Prós: The service at the San Francisco Palomar was excellent. The front desk staff and doormen deserve top marks. They were helpful in every circumstance from procuring a taxi to giving directions or making suggestions regarding nearby attractions and walking distances. The hotel was clean, the restaurant was superb....fantastic breakfast! And the wait staff was superior. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and look forward to that happening in the near future. Hats off to the Palomar staff!!!!!!!
Prós: The Palomar was clean, quiet and comfortable and in a great location.
Contras: The woman working in the evening checking in guests needs more training. Either that or maybe she was having a bad night.
Prós: Had a great common area with a fireplace and a good basic breakfast. Overall a great place! Rooms are the perfect size and clean and bathroom I had was large.
Contras: If you're a light sleeper, DO NOT stay here. Street is extremely busy most of the time, windows/walls didn't block any sound. It was also a little odd that the bartender/bar was also the front desk so if you needed something you had to call the bar.
Prós: That there was a bar right below us. I really liked to free breakfast and the staff was very nice!
Contras: There was nothing that I disliked :)
Prós: Loved the eclectic feeling of this hotel! The staff was super friendly and helpful. There is a big common space/ living room and 24 hour open snacks that gave us the comfort of being at home.
The room was clean and comfortable and felt private. The restaurant below is open late with great food and drinks, the perfect place to come back to after long days roaming the city.
Prós: Que havia um bar logo embaixo. Eu realmente gostei do café da manhã gratuito e a equipe foi muito simpática.
Contras: Não há nada de que eu não tenha gostado :)
Prós: The location was great - walkable to boutique shops and restaurants, plus the marina. The hotel room was clean, offered a walk in closet and had an updated bathroom. The bed was comfortable too. They offered a year round heated pool and continental breakfast as well. This was our first stay, but it won't be our last!
Prós: I enjoyed the helpfulness of staff. The rooms are well-appointed and adaptively, attractively renovated upscale from the old motor court it once was. It's clever, creative and a nice change of pace.
Contras: It's a bit noisey---but to be expected in that it is old construction and all access in and out involves noise.
Contras: - Pressured toliet caused loud, frequent rattling sounding like a fire alarm in the middle of the night. I told management and they don't/couldn't fix it .
- $38 per night "resort fee" for no real services. A true rip off.
Prós: Location staff and cleanliness
Contras: No room service or mini bar
Contras: Poor accommodations. Rude staff.
Prós: Comfortable and clean. Good location
Contras: No room service
Prós: Location was nice for exploring the city. Room was clean/comfortable.
Contras: NO INTERNET at this hotel... In the modern age, it's ridiculous that wifi/high speed internet is not included in the cost of the hotel when you purchase ahead of time. On top of that, I asked about wifi when I was checking in, and the lady told me we could get internet with an OPTIONAL ~$35 PER night fee, that included internet and other services like bike rentals. We didn't want to spend this, so it made sense that I couldn't connect to any wifi from my hotel room. When I checked out, they said they had charged us for the fee, and that it was required, despite the fact that we'd never connected to the internet. Outrageous that this wasn't just in the price of the hotel from the getgo... Don't bother with this place until they get with the modern age.
Prós: Location. Proximity to public transportation.
Contras: Doors, fixtures show age, wear and tear. Facilities fee (which I assume were adjusted for SPG Platinum members)
Contras: You had to pay for WiFi and the restaurant had a very limited menu.
Contras: The room they put us in was very small. There was no refrigerator, no microwave, nothing that would make the stay comfortable or say luxury. Plus the parking cost and facilities fees are ridiculously high.
Prós: We had a view even from the 9th floor. Very clean and cozy. Staff was really kind.
Contras: No mini fridge :(
Prós: Great location
Contras: Restaurant can be improved, i. e. choice & prices slightly too high
Prós: I loved the view and staff was extremely friendly and the location great. Bed was very comfortable and and room was nice and clean. Mabye a lil upgrade on the appliances other than that it was great.
Contras: I think for the resort fee it should have came with a little more amenities.
Prós: View was great, staff was very friendly, and room was very clean.
Contras: $58 for over night parking is outrageous, because of that I will not stay here again. Also, $20 for wifi? For the price you're paying that should definitely be included. We had to ask twice for a crib to be sent up to the room, that was a little disappointing when I had two small children to get to bed upon arrival. Also would have been nice to have a mini fridge included in the room. When traveling with kids it's very convenient to have a fridge to store their milk, snacks, etc
