Best food I have had at an all inclusive in Puerto Plata. Staff was very friendly with lots of activities. Service in restaurants was incredible, by day two Domingo knew what we wanted and had it ready for every meal by the time we were there. Top shelf liquors available at select bars, safe is free, casino is right next door, beautiful beach, close to airport and city, would likely go back. We had 24 people come from 15 to 78 and all had a great time (and not one person was ill from food) Definitely more family oriented than for younger people, rooms were a bit dated... We had an outlet hanging out and a fridge that didn't work (we weren't in there very much), restaurant reservations can be hard to come by (if you get one go Japanese, by far the best) , less beach people trying to push excursions than other places but still there (they are honest and had better deals for the same stuff as the resort, IE we had resort goers in our group set up by the beach guys, but we paid a lot less), good liquor is really only found at the front bar
Weather , staff from other hotels bugging in beachfront , loud bad music at restaurant
IT WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE WE HAD HAD AT A HOTEL. WE WILL NEVER FORGET IT!!! WE LIKED EVERYTHING. THANK YOU!!!!
I liked that the pool had a bar n the beach was walking distance. They had shows every night. It was a fun night. I didn't like that the authenticity of the national foods was very poor. But it was ok.
I LIKED EVERYTHING!!!!! EVERYTHING WAS EXELLENT!!
This is a lovely resort, very clean and the with wonderful friendly staff. I would definitely go back. Great place to relax and enjoy the beach. Thank you to all the staff for treating us so well.
The food was great! The pool was large and fairly clean. Good air conditioning in the rooms. Energetic activities staff. The beach was so windy we couldn't sit there. Hard to find -- no sign in front of hotel or on the street. The shows were mediocre at best -- not always family friendly. Hard to get a reservation to one of the restaurants. The free internet in lobby was frustrating and rarely worked.
From the friendly reception to the beatiful facilities, great food and we'll appointed room, this resort is excellent. The staff is very well trained. The dancers in the evening traditional Dominican dance show were excellent. I stayed in the VIP portion of the resort and it was a great atmosphere. Stinning architecture throughout. From the moment I checked in until when I checked out, I kept telling myself, I must come back again. All good.
Location: Within 15 – 20 minutes of the airport. Near 2 other hotels and a golf course, 2 mini malls with a restaurant and a few shops. Room: We stayed in the Catalina building in room 2203 and it was great and very clean. They provided a hair dryer, shampoo / conditioner, shower cap, soap, etc. and the bathroom was spotless. There was a closet with shelves in the front and there was also a balcony overlooking the pool. The bed was very comfortable and there was a flatscreen TV and a desk. There was also air conditioning which made the experience very comfortable. Atmosphere: There were A LOT of families, senior citizens and spring breakers at this resort. The pool was large, gorgeous with a swim up bar and a great temperature. Since this is an all-inclusive resort the drinks were free as well the food. They offered many activities throughout the day including water aerobics, pineapple toss, dance class, etc. They also have a section for kids as well as nightly entertainment (i.e. magic shows). Most of the chairs at the pool are claimed by 8am with towels, so get down there early! There is direct beach access, which gets very crowded with chairs by 11am. There are A LOT of beach vendors but if you pretend you’re sleeping or say “no thank you” they’ll leave you alone. The water is clear and warm. There’s also a private beach which you get with the upgraded package, but we decided not to pay an additional $40/night per person. Also, they say free Wi-Fi but it’s only in the “theater area” and barely connects. You have to pay for it in your room. Staff: Very mixed results. Some staff was super friendly and went out of their way to ensure we were happy and had everything to make our stay enjoyable, while others acted like they couldn’t be bothered. I would like to see management create a consistent experience across all of their staff. For example, I had an allergic reaction to the shellfish (I wasn’t allergic prior... may have been the type of squid served) and my girlfriend we went to find me Benedryl. We went to both gift shops and they were EXTREMELY unhelpful. My girlfriend said my face was swollen and she was in a panic to get me medicine and one of cashiers was on the phone on a personal call hanging out and was no help at all. Luckily another guest told us there was a mini mall down the street that had a pharmacy where we could get Benedryl (ended up paying $11 for 12 tablets which was more $$ than normal). PS I'm fully healed :) Food: The food was terrible. Although it’s all-inclusive, we found the food to be inedible. The breakfast offered an omelet station your choice of green peppers, tomatoes, cheese, ham and corn or fried eggs and those were good. They also have a smoothie bar and if you ask for the “smoothie especial” they’ll give you an amazing creation by one of the staff. For lunch we ate salad with olives and chickpeas. The beef is extremely tough and fatty and the pasta was rubbery. We had dinner at the Italian restaurant on the grounds of the hotel and the meal was just as bad (the meal was included in the all-inclusive package).
Service and food was excellent. Night club not included, and needed more animation.
The food was great at the buffet, the room was very nice and comfortable. The staff was very friendly at all times. I didn't like that there is no club inside the actual hotel. My boyfriend and I wanted to go dancing and we had to go outside the hotel to get to the nearest club. But overall it was a really good experience, I would go back
I was attending a Wedding Vow Ceremony and upon arrival to departure Everyone was very polite friendly with the best attitude. Food deliciously prepared, my suite was very clean, furnished appropriately and very comfortable.
I was pretty pleased. I like the design and set up of everything. I liked the beach huts that protect you from the sun and the pool was very nice. Maybe it just wasn't very busy when we went (May 19 - 24) but I didn't think it was too crowded and could always find a chair by the pool or a hut on the beach. I found plenty of food to keep me satisfied. Restaurant food was really good. Be sure to take advantage of being able to eat at each one once a week. This was my first all inclusive - I found it to be well worth the money for my group of 3, sharing 1 room with 2 beds. They have a stone called Larimar, only found in the DR, which is beautiful shades of blue, the beach vendors have a lot of lovely larimar jewelry - I highly recommend getting a piece for yourself. Negotiate but remember the individuals selling stuff only get a cut of the profit and they most likely have families to feed. I bought from a few. If you are looking for jewelry, ask for Julio and tell him Cara sent you! Beds weren't very comfortable but not horrible either. Not good for side sleepers - that's for sure, but not as bad as some reviewers made them out to be. I brought my own pillow too based on some of the reviews I read. Some of the staff was not too friendly. Learn some Spanish if you don't know any, that helps increase their friendliness and helpfulness towards you. One helper in the dining room pressured me to drink alcohol which I found really annoying, but that was only 1 guy out of many others who were very friendly and helpful. With some dishes it was difficult to tell if there was meat in them, it would be nice if they added ingredient lists at the buffet but the "healthy" section that contained 3 meatless options always had something I liked so I was pleased. The music at night was kind of annoying when trying to go to sleep early, but I'm pretty sure it never went past midnight. The people selling stuff on the beach can be extremely annoying/presistent, but I don't blame really blame them because they are doing what they can to get by.
This was my second time staying here and it is 100% better. The rooms are updated and they are really nice, the restaurant was updated and that too was really nice. The food was amazing! We are very well. The entertainment was cute and funny, the whole family enjoyed it. Most of all, the staff were all amazing. Everyone always had a smile on their face and they were always eager to help. We had 13 people and the moved tables, chairs so we could all eat together. They even sang to my sister in law for her birthday. Great place, we'll be back again next year!
The pool and the beach were beautiful There was no variety in the food . The entertainment was mediocre. Expresso was only available after 10am which I find ridiculous since espresso is usually drank for breakfast. I've traveled to other resorts in that strip and I prefer Barcelo which is next to Grand Paradise . The front desk receptionists are very rude.
Staff, location, breakfast by the beach Only their local low grade alcohol was included/one restaurant needed an appointment and the other you had to pay for
I liked the beach near by. As well as the city and other turist atraction out of the hotel were close by Internet (wifi) was not included and to pay for the service was too expensive. I wished they would have charged me in dollars instead of pesos.
Aftershow and environment Took too long to check in
The hospitality was very good in all departments, specially the entertainment staff. food on buffet and restaurants was great. Front desk staff were friendly but they definitely need training in communicating effectively and accurately with the guest's, to reassure the customer with veracity and understanding for customer satisfaction. Rooms are extremely outdate.
It was so nice to have everything pre-paid and to enjoy doing or eating whatever we wanted whenever we wanted. The Beach was lovely. The pool clean and beautiful. The room was quaint and the balconey a major plus!! Staff was often unavailable and unhelpful. When trying to plan our arrival, we emailed asking about taxi services available and got no response. We finally called twice and were told they didn't provide any taxi service and that we should get a cab for $15 from the airport. When we arrived we were surprised to find a sign with our name on it and transportation waiting for ur...they picked us up in a BUS (for two of us!) . We thought it was great luck...and then the next day told us they were charging us $60 for it! Over three times what they quotd to us before. It was a major issue - the whole situation was due to a miscommunication among their staff and job division there.
The staff was great! Loved the shows! Need to try to make an actual piña colada, it was like water!!
Staff was excellent, food was great and drinks plentiful. Would stay here for sure. Rooms are outdated and no King size beds.
All inclusive is easy way to live. Location for some sport activities like golf. Terrible local drinks / coctails, a lot of fat people (perhaps just due to all is incl.), no quests allowed or have to pay extra for night-time pass (and even it up to 2:00 am), ridiculous! Cab service strange and expensive, except waiting time. Far from night time actions. Wifi available only in lobby area and it's not free of charge, very slow - too.
Great value for money, clean rooms, friendly service could not control air conditioning individually since I had standard room
The staff was very courteous and accommodating. As soon as I got there I was told I would not be staying at the crown residence. Instead I was moved to the tropical garden area and was told it was an upgrade, which it wasn't. It was actually a downgrade.I was never told the exact reason for the move.
The beach was ok I booked it online and have stayed at puerto Plata about 6 times at different all inclusive resorts with never a problem booking. I booked this stay only to arrive to find the front desk guy saying I booked the room only without food. I said no because it said all inclusive, I never saw a tab or anything, then the guy said for the food it would be $40 US dollars per person per night. This was not what I booked and was not going to pay the $40 per person per night, hell the room was only $222 for both nights, we had 4 people that would put the food at $320. Hell you can get food just in the town for only $200 peso. Not what I signed up for and was very disappointed
